Chapter twelve: Snowy mountain
Mara's pov:
The wind pierced right through my skin and chilled my bones despite my many layers of clothes. I shivered, wrapping my arms tighter around myself in a feeble attempt to protect myself against the merciless gusts.
Footsteps crunched in the snow beside me. I turned my head a fraction of an inch to look at the person from the corner of my eye. I was greeted by the sight of a shivering Krista. I knew it would come back to bite me in the ass when I woke up with a cold tomorrow, but I smiled sweetly and offered the blonde haired angel my coat. She looked at me with wide eyes, immediately refusing. I tilted my head to the side, the cold forgotten for a split second, and was about to ask if she was sure when a taller girl appeared behind the shorter and wrapped her coat around the shorter's frame.
"Ymir! You'll freeze if you don't wear this!" Krista exclaimed, moving to take off the coat. Ymir smiled softly and shook her head.
"It'll be worth it, love." Was all the brunette said before fasting the coat around Krista's body and walking off into the snow again. I smiled at Krista knowingly and laughed when I saw the girl's cheeks red with more than just the cold.
"That was so cute!" I teased, smiling brightly and laughing. Krista turned to me with wide, flustered eyes, hands waving in front of her in panic.
"I-it's not- I don't! M-me and Ymir aren't!" She stuttered. I laughed again and nodded sarcastically. Krista sighed and looked away defeatedly, her cheeks still blazing.
"Don't worry, I'm only kidding! I would never assume anything like that unless you were comfortable with it." I assured the blonde, placing a hand on her shoulder and smiling understandingly.
"Thank you." She said, returning my smile with one of her own.
She really is an angel.
I waved it off and kept walking.
"But, if you don't mind me asking, you do like Ymir, don't you?" I inquired cautiously. Krista's cheeks brightened again and she looked away with embarrassment.
"Do you promise not to tell anyone?" She mumbled. I gave a reassuring smile and nodded, "I do. Like, a lot." She licked her lips and looked up at me with nervous eyes. I laughed slightly under my breath.
"I'm not going to tell anyone Krista, I swear on the walls." I promised. The petite girl smiled thankfully and nodded, letting out a breath she'd presumably been holding.
"Is it wrong? That I like the same gender as myself? I- I'm scared people will hate me or shun me because of it." She confessed.
I stopped walking and reached out to take her hand in mine. She paused, looking up at me with those big doe eyes of hers.
