Mabel walked with her Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them book in her left hand. Her fingers pressed the bind of the book to make sure the pages stayed open. In her right hand, she held a quill. She would use it to write down information in the margins or simply to underline things. Now, Mabel had read this book at least ten times, but in this current moment, she searched for specific details.

"Habits and...customs re...main as...mysterious as...those of...the...centaur," Mable mumbled the words under her breath as she underlined them in her book. She circled the word centaur a couple of times as the word gave her hope.

Even though Mabel's full attention was on her book, she managed to walk through the children-filled corridor with ease. That could've been because she did this often, or maybe it was because students swerved around her. Either way, she made it to Defense Against the Dark Arts with no confrontation.

Mabel wasn't the last student to arrive, but she definitely wasn't the first either. It seemed as though the students who came early decided to take the seats in the back, making the front desks the only ones open. Mabel shuffled to an open seat. It was in the second row from the front—just enough space between her and the professor's desk.

She took out a small notebook from her bag. She opened to a page that already had some information written on it. Mabel added another bullet point and wrote, "Merpeople like centaurs?"

The classroom door slammed shut. Mabel flinched and snapped her head toward the noise. Professor Moody limped in the class. His dramatic entry caused the room to be silent except for the echoing of his wooden foot. Mabel watched him closely. He held a frown that felt as if it were his resting face. The scars that painted his skin weren't comforting like Professor Lupin's was. They were threatening.

Mabel moved her gaze from his pale scars. As she looked at his fake eye, it snapped at her and stared into her soul. Mabel gulped. His magical eye looked down at her book. She slammed it shut and dumped it in her bag before he could get a good look at it. He looked back at her before he turned away.

"If I'm correct, you are all fifth years?" Professor Moody asked as he made it to the front of the class. The class let out a collective, 'yes'. "And do you know your curses?" The class fell silent. "Do we not know how a class works? I ask a question, you answer it. Do you know your curses?"

"We know a few," Cho Chang said. She was Ravenclaw's seeker and also Cedric's lifelong crush. From the few conversations Mabel held with Cho, Mabel knew she was very kind. At least that was her first impression of her.

"And what are those?" Moody asked.

"That's kind of broad, sir," Cho spoke again. "I mean, we know Reducto and—"

"If I wanted to know those kinds of curses, don't think you think I could've asked Professor Lupin, Ms..."

"Chang."
