"Ben, I know I am so sorry I missed it. I had this patient who kidney were shattered and I just couldn't turn them away. Gosh I know I'm such a terrible mother and I don't make time for him, barely for you either. I-
"Miranda slow down baby. I was just calling to ask if you received the pictures that I sent you of Tuck and then I was going to say that the both of us could come pick you up now that we are done trick or treating and I have some activities that if you are not too tired, the three of us can participate in." Ben said calming her.
"Oh I'm sorry. Yes that would be great. I didn't look at the pictures yet but I will after I hang up. I just have to finish my post op notes for this patient, change my clothes and then I will be ready."
"Okay great and Miranda I would never ever say you are a bad mother. You are an absolute great mother and nobody can take that away from you. Even missing holidays, school events, games, nothing will discredit that. You do the best you can. He knows that he is loved and well taken care of and that's all that matters. Me and your son understand you." Ben reminded.
Miranda blew out a breath and nodded her head like he was standing before her. "Thank you and I'll see you in 45 minutes." Miranda said before hanging up and then the tears of joy and relief came.
"Bailey, are you crying?" Richard asked.
"Mmm-hmm."
"What's the matter?"
"My husband."
"Aww Bailey I'm sorry but you know it was an experiment.
"No, nothing’s wrong with us. I'm crying because I'm happy. He understands me. I missed trick or treating with Tuck and his costume and it didn't bother him. He took pictures for me and then planned something that I could still participate in when I get home. It's just a relief from my previous marriage. I can relax about situations and not be made to feel horrible." Miranda said wiping her eyes.
"I'm happy for you." Richard said with a smile.
"Thanks." Miranda replied with a smile as she went to go sit down to write her notes. She finished that up and then went to go change her clothes before waking outside to Ben's car.
"Hey baby." Ben greeted when she got inside.
"Hey baby" Miranda replied leaning over to kiss him.
"Hey mommy." Tuck said.
"Hey honey. I see you have two huge bags of candy." Miranda said looking into the back seat before turning to Ben who shrugged his shoulders with a smile.
"And I love your costume. Doctor crazy person." Miranda teased.
Ben opened up Miranda's car door and then Tuck's as they walked into the house.
"I ordered pizza and wings." Ben said and Miranda nodded her head.
She went into the kitchen and saw a plastic tablecloth with pumpkins and carving utensils on the table.
Miranda smiled looking at Ben."Be careful." Miranda said as Tuck sat in the seat at the counter. Ben took the cookies out of the fridge and they were Halloween themed. He put them on a baking sheet and placed them into the oven before sitting down.
They were making a mess in the kitchen as they stuck their hands in their pumpkins to clean it out.
"So then I used the gnome mapping to figure out if it was going to happen to her children and it turns out that all of them have the same stomach cancer gene." Miranda explained.
"That's is so interesting. It's almost like you're finding the missing pieces to the puzzle and it saves someone life without them having to be poked, prodded, and operated on." Ben mused happy for her.
