Warm wind rustled Taehyung's hair as he and Jimin walked into school. His day had started quite nicely. It was a welcome change. Both figuratively and literally, this day was turning out to be a breath of fresh air.

He'd woken up a bit early, before his alarm, but he hadn't been tired, so he slid out of bed and headed downstairs, finding his mom in the process of making a berry parfait while his father sat at the table. His father had made a remark about him being up early, and smiled just slightly, which caught Taehyung completely off-guard. He was being quite unusually pleasant, and Taehyung decided that he sort-of liked it.

The entire school was feeling that same breath of fresh air. Spirits were high, and more faces held cheerful smiles as they broke off of the crowd of students moving together in the hallway  into their own classrooms for first period. Among groups who stalled slightly, Taehyung could hear excited chattering. Three girls ambled on toward their first class, their varying lengths of hair swishing from side to side as they walked and tilted their heads, discussing what type of dress counts as "semi-formal". A shaggy-haired boy grinned as he tried to make his girlfriend blush by telling her she was due to receive an invitation for a slow dance that night. And the last group: just a few feet ahead of him, Sorah held up her hand and waved her hand in polite rejection as a timid senior asked her if she might accompany him later that night. It was all part of the scenery.

As he rounded the corner to enter his chemistry classroom, a handmade paper banner hung from the tiles in the ceiling, spelling out the words 'DAEWON HIGH 19TH ANNUAL SPRING FLING!'

Oh~ Taehyung thought. That's what's going on. I've been so busy worrying about dating Sorah that I forgot Spring Fling was this week. Ugh. Not cool, Taehyung.

He continued into the classroom, narrowly avoiding a bout of awkward eye contact with a certain boy as he sat down directly behind him. Now I've gotta think of something to wear. What even is "semi-formal? Does that mean I have to wear a boring old suit? Eeeeh, there's probably some wiggle room. I'll figure something out, I guess...

But then there was the problem of a date. A date was not necessary, but Daewon High's Spring Flings were nearly proms, and placed heavy importance on having a partner to dance with at the end of the night. Since they were only for seniors, Taehyung had never been to one and therefore, wasn't sure how awkward it would be for him and his best friend to show up together, each without a date.

Startling him out of his thoughts, the intercom crackled and blared out an announcement. "Attention students, school will only run until lunch today due to the big event tonight! Enjoy your half day; and seniors, remember to be in the gymnasium by 7:30 tonight!"  Taehyung joined in the cheer that erupted through the classroom, noting the way the boy in front of him cutely pumped his fists.

"Alright, everybody quiet down, we got a lot to fit in and not enough class time because of this half day. Let's get to work! Open your textbooks to page 302."

xxx

"Tae, what are you wearing tonight?" Jimin asked as they took their seats, inside the bustling cafeteria this time.
