Over the next month Melody makes more friends through her Vice Captain, like Charlotte Sukehiro, Captain Yami's twin sister, Nora Silva, the oldest Silva sister, and Tatis, an elf. Apart from that she trains regularly. Today is one of those days.

"Flower Magic: Nobleman's Dance!"

Melody starts an elegant dance and draws a giant circle, which would act as the border of the arena of her and her inexistent competitor.

"Hey, Melody! Mind if I train with you?" A young, chirpy voice asks.

"No, not at all, Asta. Come over here then."

Asta starts to approach the border of daisies.

"Asta, no!"

It was too late. Asta had already stepped on one of the flowers, causing it to explode and fling him a good ten metres back. Melody rushes over to him through the small hole that opened up from the  flowers that got set off from the small ash-blonde.

"Are you okay?"

"It's going to take more than that to get rid of me! I'm going to be the Wizard King after all! Hey, by the way, was that your magic?"

Melody just nodded, glad that her senior was okay.

"That's soooo cool!"

"It is?"

"Yeah! I don't have any magic at all. Say, are you a royal? I've only ever felt this much ki from Noelle otherwise."

"Not royal, noble, but I prefer not to associate with them. I'm an outcast, like Finral except I chose to leave instead of getting kicked out. The last time we saw each other was at a noble event when I was six, I haven't been to any since then."

"Nobles have special events?"

"Yeah, I never understood the point though. Most of the lords and ladies just parade their children around and look for future fiancés. Anyway, let's get to training."

"Right!"

Asta and Melody return to the arena and start fighting. The fight ensues for about an hour.

Shoot, I'm starting to run out of mana. Time to end this!

"Flower Magic: Blooming Spray!" Melody says, blowing out a fine mist.

The mist hits Asta Square in the face and paralyses him.

"You put up a good fight, Asta! I'm going to head in now, don't worry about the paralysis, it'll wear off in a while."

She's so powerful!! Cool. This paralysis is annoying though...

Whew, that was gruelling Melody thinks, wiping some lingering sweat from her forehead and flopping onto a sofa.

"Good morning, Melody!" Finral exclaims, pulling her onto her feet and into a hug.

"G-g-good m-m-morning," she stammers, a reddish hue spreading over her face.

Finral lets go and bounds out of the room, leaving a flustered Melody in the middle of the room.

Why did a hug make me blush?? We've known each other since we were kids, this isn't the first time he's hugged me. Unless…. No, that won't be it. Melody shakes her head and heads up to her room to wash up before lunch.

Sitting in front of her mirror Melody picks up her train of thought again.

But what if…? I'm not but just in theory…. Could I really be… be in l-love with F-Finral?? No, no, no. Even if I was, it wouldn't go anywhere, because it would be over in like a week, either because he'd be dead by then or because he'd have hit on every other girl who's cuter than me, so every other girl. Besides, as soon as he knows the truth he'd drop me like a dead fly, so there. Is. No. Point. In. Being. In. Love. With. Him.

This continues for a few minutes until Melody gets so worked up that she snaps. She starts to rise out of her seat and a golden orb starts appearing around her. Within a minute her back is arched and she's floating in the air, paralyzed, the orb's radius increasing slowly.

I haven't even been here for a month and I'm going to blow the place to smithereens. Happy thoughts Melody, happy thoughts…. Crap. I don't have any. What do I do???

"Melody, are you ok? I suddenly felt a huge surge of-" Luck's voice sounds from the door frame and abruptly stops as soon as he sees what's going on.

"Guys! Something's happening to Melody!"

A small party gathers, of the people in the near vicinity who heard Luck's cry.

"What do we do?" A panicked voice asks.

"Someone go get Captain Yami so he can cut through it," a second voice suggests

"Are you crazy? That'll kill her!" A third voice exclaims, exasperated.

"What's going on?" Finral asks, joining the group of bystanders.

"M-Melody?"

Just then Melody's eyes open and she sees the group staring at her with confusion and...fear? Of course, it had to be.

F-Finral?

Melody calms a little and the orb recedes and she begins to plummet to the ground. Within seconds Finral is in the centre of the room and catches her before she can hit the ground.

"What was that about?"

"I guess I forgot to calm down after my training."

Forgot to activate my necklace again, more like.

"You float in the air and start flashing if you get too excited?"

"Yeah, something like that."

"Hey, Melody, you wanna fight?" Luck interrupts, leaving Finral with a confused expression on his face.

"Maybe tomorrow? I'm still exhausted from the training just now," Melody replies, politely.

"By the way, Finral, you can put me down now," Melody says, a reddish hue spreading over her face again.

"Right," the spatial mage says, realising he was still holding the ginger in his arms.

The crowd disperses until eventually it's Finral and Melody alone in the room. Finral turns to leave, but stops in the doorframe and turns his head back around.

"You know you can talk to me about anything, right? You're my best friend and even though I'm not that strong or valuable in battle, I'll always try my best and then some to protect you."

"I know," Melody replies, clasping her necklace to reactivate it.

Finral leaves and heads in the direction of the living room.

Shame that's all we'll ever be.
