Chapter 14

Riley POV
I woke up and looked at myself in the mirror. My face was all red and blotted and I had mascara steaks running down my cheeks. I was still upset from what happened yesterday, Maya hasn't said anything since. I walked into the kitchen as Lucas was frying some bacon. "Hey have you thought about any summer jobs yet?" He shrugged "yeah I might work at the bakery you own partly." I nodded and sat down when I felt a wetness under me. Oh crap. "Lucas!!!" I yelled as he came rushing in. "Lucas my water just broke." I started to cry I thought I was ready, but with Maya not here I wasn't. I started to cry as Lucas rushed me to the car, I can't do this. We pulled up to the emergency entrance about 20 minutes later. By now I was almost hysterical."Ma...May...Mayaaaa" I would cry over and over again. I kept telling myself she would come, but I knew she wouldn't. The nurse gave me a pill to calm me down and it worked to some extent. The doctor came in giving me a warm smile. "Riley please calm down, you're only hurting yourself and the babies." I sighed and nodded she was right I just need to do this by myself. With Lucas of course. The doctor began to check the monitors when her face became dark. Lucas noticed too "um is something wrong?" She nodded "yes I'm only seeing activity from two of the babies, but not the third." Wait was she saying one of the babies was dead?! The doctor continued talking "it looks like the baby is about to die, so I'll just give you a pill that will kill it and it won't harm the other babies." I looked at Lucas and he nodded, I guess it was the right thing to do. "Okay if tha-" "DONT DO ANYTHING TO THAT BABY!" I snapped my head towards the door and saw Maya. She speed walked over to the doctor. "I've researched and it says sometimes in twins or triplets it's common for one of the babies to be unresponsive because it's getting ready to come out."
(A/N I don't really think this is true I just made it up.)
I looked at the doctor hopeful and she shook her head "yes that's true, but if the baby is dead it could hurt the other two." I looked at Maya and could see the determination in her face. "No I'm going to deliver all three babies." Lucas grabbed my left hand and Maya grabbed my right as I began to push. They were cheering me on and soon enough we heard the scream of baby #1. The doctor smiled "okay good job Riley just two more to go!" I pushed again and again until finally the next baby came out crying as well. I took a deep breath the next baby to deliver was the one the doctor wanted to kill. I began to push, praying I would hear a cry. Finally the doctor yelled she saw a head and pulled out the baby. The room was silent for a moment, until we heard the wail of the baby. I began to cry and turned to Maya "Maya! You saved my baby, thank you so much!" She nodded "and I'm sorry Riley for ruining your love life, I should've been more considerate." After cleaning up all the babies the nurses brought them over to us. It was 2 boys and 1 girl. I looked down at all the babies and smiled "I love you all."
