The suns rays sliced through the clouds down through my window, it covered my face, I opened one eye and found Stheno my eldest sister staring down at me. "come on you lazy thing time to get up, otherwise we won't get the morning hunt!" she growled at me. I groaned a sigh of annoyance I didn't want to get up but our village relied on us getting the fresh hunt each day. I dragged my half dead body out of the comfort of my warm bed and got washed in the fountain by Athena's shrine, I looked over at Stheno who had joined me, "where's Euryale I haven't seen her hardly all week", I glanced at Stheno, "oh, you know her always off, she goes to sing with the muses most the time, she gets up at the crack of dawn just to sing with those pampered pretties, what have they ever done to help anyone!?", Stheno said angrily. Euryale was another one of my sisters and she was too older than me. I grabbed for my robe and headed back to the house, I put on my hunting gear, I had a short brown material skirt with shorts attached underneath, my laced up shirt and my leather boots but my favrouite thing a leather jacket my father gave me for my eighteenth birthday, it was a proper hunting jacket and had a black horse Embroiled on the back, the black horse was a reminder of my shadow foal, the story came flooding back to me, one day I was strolling through the wood and heard cries I ran to find a shadow horse hit by the only thing they can be hit by a gold arrow, i was surprised there were many laws against killing such a rare thing, i guess some people are just driven mad by greed, i stroked its ebony neck, it was crying as the black goo flooded out of it, I tried to help but the wound was to great and I could do nothing but sit by its side till death. The horses eyes started to roll and then they stopped and just stared into nothing she was gone, a huge black light swallowed he up and her body was bow among the stars, after a while I turned to head home and I heard a little whinny from behind me I looked round to find a black foal, he was as black as the midnight sky , he looked at me and started to come closer, he nuzzled my hand and from then on we have been soul friends we know what each other are thinking and what we're feeling. His name was Pitch because it was like he
was pitch black, he lived in the forest and came to me when I needed him. I looked down at my jacket stroking the neck of the dark horse then, put it on and grabbed my bow and arrows and went to meet Stheno ready to leave for the morning hunt. As soon as we entered I hear loud hoof beats and it go louder and louder till a black figure flew right through my body, I fell over into some thick mud through the shock "Pitch, you could have given me a little bit of warning this time!" I said eyeing him off, he took no notice and pranced up to my face and nuzzled it. I found my footing and got up I mounted Pitch, "ready boy?" I said , "I'm always ready", he replied and we galloped off into the thick part of the dark woods.
