When I woke up I was on my bed, propped up on pillows. I looked around my room but found nobody. That was when I saw the bell. It was on my bedside table so I rang it. There were foot steps coming toward my room. I turned my head to the side and looked at the door as it opened.
When the door opened it revealed my father and alpha. “Hey Kitten how are you, feeling?” my father asked using his pet name for me. “A bit sore but Ben thinks my leg is broken and my neck is torn up but other than that I'm fine,” I smile weakly at him to convince him of my lie. “I'm sorry we had to force your shift but we didn’t think you would be up to it when you woke up,” my father apologized. “Its fine Dad I don't think I would have been able to shift. I am hungry though would you be able to help me to the kitchen?” I asked. “You will stay in bed and that is an order. I will be back in a moment your mother has made her famous Chili Con Carne. I’ll bring you some,” my father threw over his shoulder as he walked out of my room.
I sighed and lifted myself up into a sitting position and looked down at my legs. I couldn’t see anything because of the blankets that were on top of me. I slowly peeled back the blankets, grimacing when I saw my left leg. It was black and purple with dry crusted blood where stick or rock had sliced through my leg. Just below my knee my leg was stuck out at a weird angle.
“Here’s a bowl of chili. Oh Kiara please pull the blankets up and keep that leg warm,” my father said passing me the bowl and pulling the covers up to my stomach. “Dad I had to look. I wanted to see what that bastard did.” “Kiara I know you don't like being cooped up in your room but it is the best thing for you to do until Dr Campbell comes and looks at that and you leg.” “Yes Dad as long as, as soon as Dr Campbell looks at it and gives me crutches can I get up?” “As long as Dr Campbell says its alright.” With that my father walked out of my room leaving me to eat my now luke warm chili.
Dr James Campbell was my prides physician. We couldn’t go to a normal doctor because there were elements in our blood that would get rid of this pretense of security and secrecy that kept our existence out of public knowledge. It was also what kept us out of science labs.
