Meredith Grey and her mother aren't the wealthiest people alive Meredith is working 2 jobs to pay for her and her mom. Ellis, Meredith's mother isnt very healthy either bit some days she feels fine enough to head to town just to get out of the house...
"Please Meredith I'm running out of time and that reward could get me into a home and they could take care of me" Ellis begged her daughter "mom I've told you I'm not going to go to a gala to try to meet a snobby rich man to marry" Meredith argued. "Meredith do it for me I've got you a beautiful gala dress" Ellis said "mom how in the world did you go and afford a gala dress?" Meredith asked. "Meredith I'm a sick middle aged women how do you think a got the gala dress?" Ellis said "ugh you have to stop using your 'I'm a sick dying women' card mom" Meredith said.
"Please Meredith just go and atleast try for me" Ellis pleaded "fine but no promises I'm bringing home a rich man" Meredith said "great now go get the dress from my closet it is the navy blue one" Ellis said. "Okay I'll go try it on" Meredith said heading to Ellis's closet.
Meredith fell inlove with the dress as soon as she put it on and she isn't one to wear dresses. "Meredith it fits you perfectly!" Ellis exclaimed then coughed a bit. "Yeah I love it how did you manage to get this dress with your sad sick dying women card" Meredith asked still admiring the dress. "That is a secret that you will never know" Ellis said with a smile "okay well my coffee shop shift starts at 1 and ends and 4 so I should be back at around 5 because I have to run to the store first then I should be home to get ready for the gala that starts at..?" Meredith said "oh yes the gala starts at 8 and goes until 12 and you will stay the whole time and the drive is 45 minutes so you have to leave at around 7:10-7:15 ish" Ellis said. "Okay that sounds great I have to go change into some normal clothes now" Meredith laughed. "Yes you do" Ellis agreed.
Once Meredith got to the coffee shop she saw her best friends there already for their shift. "Hey Cristina, Hey Alex" she said "hey Mer" Alex said "bitch took you long enough" Cristina said "happy to see you too Cristina" Meredith laughed. Alex and Cristina have been Meredith's best friends for 5 years since she started working at the coffee shop she is also friends with Izzie and George she met them 3 years ago when she started working at the bar for some extra cash.
"So Meredith have you heard of that gala that rich old man Christopher Shepherd is having tonight?" Cristina asked "oh yeah I heard about it" Meredith nodded not wanting to tell her she is going. "It's probably going to be full of spoiled girls after his son's money" Alex added "that Derek Shepherd is something but not anything I would go for he is dreamy though" Cristina said "wait! Mcdreamy that's what I'm calling him" Cristina added to her sentence "really Cristina Mcdreamy" Meredith rolled her eyes putting on her apron. "Have you seen the man oh and his bestfriend what's his name oh yeah Mark Sloan he is hot I should name him...Mcsteamy!" Cristina said "Cris aren't you going to come up with a mc name for Owen I mean he is your boyfriend" Alex said "no he isn't one of those rich men so he is just Owen" Cristina said "you guys are unbelievable" Meredith giggled. "Hey I think Alex is unbelievable he's the one dating Izzie Stevens" Cristina said. "Yeah and that Izzie Stevens is making me go to the gala tonight" Alex groaned. "Whatch your mouth Karev" they heard from behind them.
"Izzie hey what are you doing here" Meredith said. "Oh you know just making sure my boyfriend doesn't take extra shifts so he can skip the gala" Izzie shrugged "I wasn't going to skip Iz" Alex said "yeah yeah I am sold" Izzie rolled her eyes.
"Well I wish I could skip Owen wants to take me to the gala it's going to be boringg" Cristina said "I have and idea why doesn't Meredith come with us" Izzie said "yeah come on Mer you can't leave me all alone with may I list off everyone Izzie, Alex, Owen, AND George" Cristina said.
"Oh yeah well about that I uhm was already planning on going for my mother she wants me to be the one to marry that Shepherd man which by the way I have no idea who he even is.." Meredith rambled "no way Mer your one of those money crazy girls" Alex gasped "shut up Alex" Meredith punched him in the shoulder.
"Mer you seriously don't know who he is?" Izzie asked "does it look like I'm lying" Meredith said seriously "okay let me get you a picture" Cristina said. She showed Meredith the picture "that is Christopher Shepherd the woman next to him is his wife Carolyn Shepherd and those are all his sisters and there is Derek" Izzie said pointing to people on Cristina's phone. Meredith focused on all the different pictures she was seeing and noticed that in the photos with all of his family his eyes had a happy glint in them but in the photos with him with other people or alone his eyes had a hint of sadness and now by this time Meredith thought she was going crazy because she could tell all that by looking into his eyes but he was a very attractive man and seemed nice if she was forced to marry him she definitely would bit now she has to idea why she is thinking and now is rambling in her head and needs to stop.
"Earth to Meredith" George said waving his hand in front of Meredith's face "huh wait George when did you get here?" Meredith asked "like a few minutes ago you were daydreaming for awhile" he shrugged "oh okay" she said and the day went on.
After work she headed home she was going to meet every one at 9 at the gala she will be there by 8 but they won't so she will just have to do something in that hour.

Once I got home I took a shower and then did my hair and some light make up then I put on my dress I told my mom she is welcome I'm doing this for her and that I loved her and I was out the door.
