Y/N POV

You throw a tennis ball to the wall and catch it as it flies back. Lizzie's trailer makes a metallic thud at the contact. It's 8 in the morning and she's already needed on set. You drove her to work. But not only her. Robbie too. She says she wants to show him her workplace, but the truth is that she doesn't go anywhere anymore without him.

Yesterday you had to accompany them to a date. You stood by the door, keeping an eye on everything, while they had the time of their life feeding each other with food, which's price was probably as high as your monthly salary. Tears burnt in your eyes as you had to witness this scene and it took all of your will power to not leave the restaurant and never come back.
Robbie wasn't even mad that you beat him up. He said that after Lizzie explained to him why you acted like that, he was happy that she has someone who reacts as quickly and reliable as you. He is genuinely sweet to her, which makes everything harder, because now you don't even have a solid reason to hate him.

You throw the tennis ball back to the wall and catch it again. The repetitive movement relaxes you.

Your mind wanders to Hailee. The night you spent with her was just – wow. She's a goddess. You texted a few times after that, but you don't know if this will be more than just a one night stand.

A knock on the door pulls you out of your thoughts. You quickly stand up from the couch and open it.

"Scarlett, hi.", you greet her surprised.

"We have to talk.", she says and shoves you aside to get into the trailer.

"Sure, come in.", you mumble and roll your eyes.

Scarlett sits down on the couch and watches you attentively. You shift your weight from one leg to the other as you awkwardly wait for her to say something.

"You wanted to talk?", you ask cautiously.

"Yeah. Who is this wannabe Jesus that walks around with Lizzie and acts like he's her boyfriend?!"

"His name's Robbie and he acts like that because he is.", you respond calmly. You don't want her to know how much this is actually affecting you.

"You could be a better boyfriend than him."

"What?", you laugh. "You're being ridiculous."

"Come on, y/n. I see the way you look at her. The way you care for her. You have feelings for her."

"Is it that obvious?"

"For me? Yes. But Lizzie is like the blindest person ever."

You chuckle. "It might be better like that. If she knew what I feel for her, she would probably fire me. Because everything would be even more awkward than it is now."

"What happened between you two?"

"She didn't tell you?"

Scarlett shakes her head.

You sigh. "Well, you know about the emergency button on her watch, right? A few weeks ago she pressed it accidentally when she spent time with Robbie. I reacted immediately and drove to her house and found her with Robbie all over her. I thought, he wanted to rape her and beat him up. She was so angry with me and claimed that I would've never reacted that way if we weren't friends – which is complete bullshit – but anyway she decided that it's better if we keep things professional between us."

"Oh shit."

"Hmm."

"But I completely understand why you reacted that way. It was absolutely normal. I just don't know what's up with Lizzie."

"I have no idea and what I don't know either is how much longer I can work for her. It kills me to see her with him all the time. She threw away our friendship like it was nothing. I don't think that I ever meant something to her.", you say bitterly.

"Don't say that. I think you were too important to her. I think that you meant so much to her that she was afraid of what that could mean. And when she saw a way to distance herself from you and the feelings she has for you, she took it without thinking about the consequences.", Scarlett shares.

"That doesn't make any sense."

"Well, maybe not, but –"

The ringing of your phone cuts her off. You look at the screen and see Hailee's name.

"Sorry, uhm I gotta take this. We'll talk soon?", you excuse yourself.

"Sure. See ya around.", Scarlett waves goodbye and leaves the trailer.

"Heyy!", you answer the phone.

"Hey, y/n! Are you working right now? Or do you have some time to spend with me?", Hailee asks, her voice soft and enthusiastic at the same time.

"Well, Lizzie won't need me for the next few hours, so I'm free. What do you have in mind?"

"Wanna grab some coffee? I'm currently on set, but we can meet wherever you want."

"Sure, that sounds great and I'm on set too. So, just come over to Lizzie's trailer and then we can decide where to go.", you suggest.

"Alright, see you in a minute!"

You stand up from the couch and run your hands over your pants to smooth them out.
A soft knock announces Hailee's arrival.

"You were fast.", you remark as you open the door and step out to greet her.

She pulls you in a tight hug. "I wanted to see you."

You chuckle. "Well, here I am."

"Yeah, good! Now, let's go.", she grabs your hand and drags you with her.

You decide to have a nice walk with no particular destination. At some point you grab some coffee-to-go. The hot beverage fills you with energy and puts you in a good mood. You look up at the sky, as Hailee tells you a story about the time when she was filming pitch perfect. The early sun rays warm your face and you close your eyes contently for a moment.
When you feel soft lips against yours, kissing you softly, you open your eyes in surprise. But you close them quickly again, capturing the moment.

"I'm sorry.", Hailee whispers as she pulls away. "But you looked so beautiful, so happy. I couldn't not kiss you."

You smile. "It's okay. I liked it."

"Yeah? That's good.", she chuckles.

Her laugh feels like a fresh breeze blowing over your senses, making every worry disappear.

The ringing of your phone makes you jump.

"What a way to ruin the moment.", you groan. "Sorry, I got to pick this up."

"Hey, Kara.", you answer the phone. "I'm kind of in the middle of something. Can I call you back?"

A loud thud comes from the end of the line.

"I'm kind of in the middle of something too.", Kara pants.

"Are you okay? What is happening?"

Kara sounds out of breath, like she's been running.

"Uhm, remember when I told you about Robert Jensen? He was the guy who claims to develop super eco-friendly technology.", she explains.

"Yeah, yeah what about him?"

"The technology is supposed to be eco-friendly, because everything is recyclable. Well, I found out that Jensen doesn't recycle all this stuff, he just sinks it in the ocean."

You hear a loud bang.

"Did somebody just shoot at you?", you scream.

"They are not exactly happy about my discovery. Help me, please.", Kara pleads.

"Where are you?"

"In LA, I'll send you my location." And with that she hangs up the phone.

You lock eyes with Hailee. Panic is written all over your face.

"What's happening?", Hailee asks.

"I have to go. My friend – Kara – she's in danger. Somebody tries to kill her."

"Then I come with you.", Hailee says sternly.

"What? No! I won't put you in danger!"

"And I won't leave you!"

You sigh, running your hand through your hair in desperation.

"Then, come on. We take the motorcycle."

Hailee holds on to you tightly, as you speed through the city. A few horns are heard when you pass another vehicle without caring about the speed limit.
As soon as you park the motorcycle you jump off.

"Okay. Hailee you stay here, okay? I have Kara's live location. She's in one of the alleys right over there. I go to her, send her to you and fight the bad guys, alright? And if they approach you, you drive away, got it? I'll find a way to get to you.", you explain to Hailee quickly.

She nods anxiously. "Uh, okay yeah sure."

"Good. Take care of yourself.", you say and press a soft kiss on her forehead.

"And call the cops!", you shout as you begin to run towards the alley, Kara is in.

When you peek around the corner, you see Kara running frantically in your direction. Three men follow her with guns in their hands. As Kara reaches the end of the alley, you pull her to you, out of the shot line.

"It's you. Thank God, you're here!", Kara sighs.

"Are you okay? Did they hurt you?", you ask, and your eyes scan her body for any visible injury.

"I'm fine. My lungs are on fire, but other than that, I'm fine."

"Okay, go to Hailee.", you point with your finger in her direction. "I stop them."

"But y/n – "

"Go!", you push her away from you and step in the alley.

The first guy practically runs right into you, because he didn't see you coming. You dodge him and hit him in the back, before you swipe him off his feet in one swift motion. He groans as he falls to the ground.
The next man tries to land a right hook, but you block him and hit him with your elbow in his face. His nose makes an ugly cracking noise before blood streams out of it only seconds later. He stumbles backwards and you approach the next one. He seems to be more experienced than the others. With a wild expression in his eyes he begins to attack you. He punches you in the face. Your head flies backwards at the contact, but you recover quickly, shaking off the dizziness. Something warm drips down your temple. You're bleeding.

When you hear sirens approaching you, you smirk. Kara and Hailee are safe. And you just have to stop those guys from leaving till the cops are here.
With new energy you keep on fighting. Dodging every punch that is thrown at you and hitting them as much as you can.

"LAPD! Stop the fighting and kneel down!", you hear someone shout.

You cautiously distance yourself from the attackers. The men shift their gaze from you to the police officers. You watch the scene in front of you attentively. One of the attackers moves his hand slowly to his back, where his gun was placed. The others do it like him. Why they didn't use it before, you have no idea. They probably didn't want to make too much noise.

"Don't do this, man!", one of the police officers warns him.

But he doesn't listen to him. In a matter of seconds everyone has their gun in their hand and starts shooting. You stay flushed to the wall, not wanting to get in the middle of the crossfire. Blood sprinkles hit your face, as you watch the men falling dead to the ground. With the hem of your sleeve you wipe the blood out of your face. Showing a disgusted expression while doing so.

"Are you alright?", one of the police officers asks.

"Yeah, thanks. I'm okay."

"Can you tell us what happened?"

You explain to them, who the attackers are and how they wanted to kill Kara for the information she found out. It took a while, but when you finally sorted everything out, you could eventually go back to your friends.

"Oh my god, are you okay?", Hailee asks concerned as soon as she sees you.

"Are you injured?", Kara asks with the same concern.

They both launch forward to cup your face and inspect the wound on your temple.

You laugh at their attempt to reach you at the same time.

"I'm alright. I wasn't seriously injured. Just some cuts and bruises.", you say.

"Thank you for helping me. I don't know what I would have done without you.", Kara looks at you, a serious expression in her eyes.

"Oh, no need to thank me. To be honest I was just too scared of what Lena would do to me, if I wouldn't get you out of that safely. So, I did it more for me than for you.", you joke.

Kara slaps your arm playfully. "Idiot."

You take a look on your phone to check the time.

"Oh shit.", you mumble.

"What is it?", Hailee wants to know.

"I've got 13 messages and seven missed calls from Lizzie. She's mad that I haven't picked her up yet. Like super mad. Uhm, I really have to go. It was nice to see you, Kara. But let's meet under different circumstances next time, yeah? And Hailee, do you want to come back to set with me?"

"Yeah, sure. Riding the motorcycle was fun.", Hailee says with a slight smirk on her face.

"Okay, take care of yourself. And thank you so much for helping me again!", Kara pulls you in a hug.

You all say goodbye and go your separate ways.

When you arrive on set, Hailee stops you from going to the trailers right away.

"You know, there's something I wanted to ask you.", she begins shyly.

"Sure, what is it?"

"The night we spent together... was this a one time thing for you or...?"

She lets the unfinished sentence hang in the air. The unspoken question clear for both of you.

"I really enjoyed that night.", you begin. "And I really like you. You're super sweet, reliable and beyond beautiful. But I don't know, if I'm ready to date someone."

"Because you have feelings for someone else?", Hailee asks understanding.

"Yeah, I- I know it's stupid, because we are never going to be together. But I don't think that it would be fair to be with you, when I have those feelings for someone else."

"It's Lizzie, right?"

You want to start to protest, but quickly give up and admit: "Yeah, it's her. When I came back from Afghanistan I was lost and she was one of the first persons I met here. I left the living hell and came back to meet an angel. She made me feel home."

Hailee cups your face. "It's okay. I understand. But if you change your mind, let me know."

She presses her lips softly against yours, kissing you goodbye.

"I'll see you around.", she winks and then leaves.

You stand there for a few seconds, too stunned to move. But then you quickly make your way back to Lizzie.
You find her sitting on the stairs that lead up to the door of her trailer, typing aggressively on her phone. Probably sending you another message.

"Hey.", you say quietly.

"Hey? HEY? Are you kidding me? WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?", she screams angrily at you.

"I'm sorry, I was with Hailee and Kara and-"

"Hailee and Kara? Didn't know you were into threesomes.", she says bitterly.

You look at her confused. Taken back by her assumption.

"What?"

"Oh, don't act dumb! I just saw you two together! I waited THREE HOURS FOR YOU! WHILE YOU WERE OUT THERE FU – oh my god is that blood?"

Her voice sounds suddenly concerned, her eyes mirror worry as she looks at you. She reaches out to touch your face to inspect your wound.

"What happened?", she whispers.

"Why do you even care?", you ask, voice dripping with anger as you take her hand away.

Her eyes scan your body. It seems like she only now realizes in what state you are. Your white shirt is torn, red blood sprinkles all over it. And your arms are full of bruises.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell. I was just –", Tears fill her eyes, glinting in the light of the evening sun.

"Doesn't matter. We should go now.", you respond shortly.

Her words hurt you more than all the punches you had to take in earlier.

"Who did this to you?"

"Doesn't matter.", you repeat. "They're dead now."

Lizzie doesn't seem to know how to respond to that, so she just follows you quietly to her car. The drive back to her home is silent. None of you knows what to say. But Lizzie's worrying eyes never leave your face.
