Y/N POV

You wake up to a gentle knock on the door. Two nurses and a doctor come in calmly. You squeeze your eyes shut, as they turn on the bright light. You stretch your arms only to realize that you're alone in this bed. Lizzie must've gone after the movie, although you don't even remember falling asleep. A part of you feels disappointed that she just left without saying anything, but she was probably tired too and wanted to sleep in her own bed.

Or she got scared and went back to Robbie. What has happened between them anyway? Did she cheat on him with you yesterday?

Remembering the kiss you put your fingers to your lips, caressing them softly as you relive the feeling of her soft lips on yours. A smile slowly creeps up your face.

Your thoughts get interrupted by the doctor.

"Good morning, Ms. Y/l/n. I hope you slept well. How are you feeling today?", he greets you.

"Good morning, uhm I feel okay. My chest hurts when I'm breathing and I struggle with sitting up on my own, which is very frustrating.", you answer.

"I understand your frustration but it is completely normal and will get better. We didn't have the chance to talk properly about your injuries, so I think now is a good time. You got shot in your upper stomach and the bullet got stuck in your rib, which is why you're struggling to breathe. The shot went also straight through your muscles. That means that it is extremely painful to tense them, like you need to do when you want to sit up.
You lost a lot of blood but we could stop every internal bleeding. It's a wonder that none of your other organs got injured. I guess it's a blessing in disguise."

You sit there and nod, processing every information you get.

"Yeah, must've been.", you agree. "Thank you for saving my life."

"That's what I'm here for. Do you have any questions, before we have a look at your wound and change the bandage?"

"How long does it take until I can go back to normal?", you want to know.

"Well, that depends on the healing process and how much you give yourself time to rest. But the muscles and the bone have to grow back together, just like your skin has to too. It will take approximately two months. Then you can slowly start to do easy activities again, but you have to be careful not to stress your body too much."

"Okayy.", you say unconvinced. You need your body at its best form. It frustrates you not being able to use it like normal. Afghanistan comes up to your mind and you sigh. There's a lot you have to think about.

They check up on your wound and change your bandage, before leaving you alone again.

Before your thoughts can go back to spiraling around Lizzie and Afghanistan, your phone rings. Jamie's name appears on the screen and you smile.

"Hey Jamie!", you greet him as you pick up the phone.

"Y/n! Thank god you're picking up! How are you? Are you okay? Kara called me yesterday and told me everything.", he sounds relieved but you can hear the worry in his voice.

"I'm okay, Jamie. It isn't first time I get injured, right?", you try to enlighten the mood.

"You're sure that you are okay? Because... God, I think this is all my fault.", Jamie says. His voice filled with bitter regret.

You furrow your brows.

"What do you mean?", you ask confused.

Why should that be his fault? He's literally on the other side of the world.

He sighs and you could practically see how he runs his hand through his hair in frustration.

"What's going on, Jamie?"
