Luna's POV
Everyone's voices mixed and competed for attention in our tiny living room, speaking over one another. The mouth-watering smell of Julietas Buñuelos trying to drown out my other senses. I swallowed, staring at the plate of round treats, tempting me. Bruno chuckled next to me from the sofa, reaching out and grabbing one. He passed it to me, kissing my temple with a smile. I haven't been hiding my emotions well from him within our bond since yesterday. I sighed happily thinking about how our connection blossomed and took on a new shape, biting into my Buñuelos and moaning to myself.
"Okayyyy señora, can you focus now?", María was laughing from the floor, her notebook in hand. She tapped her pencil against the paper, eyeing me.
"Whaaaaat?!", I swallowed, earning a chorus of laughter from everyone. "¡Hola!", I gestured to my belly. "Growing a human here!", I rolled my eyes playfully. Bruno's hand rubbed my back with a smirk. He's probably just happy I'm eating this much in the morning. He better not have had Julieta tamper with these. I narrowed my eyes at him as he innocently looked back at me. "I didn't!", he held his hands up in surrender, laughing.
"So? The Saturday before Día de Asunción? That's almost two months from now.", María scribbled in her notes. Bruno's hand paused over my back as his eyes looked far off, possibly considering the date before the holiday.
"Ugh. María, I better not be big by then cause I swear hermosa..", I touched my still toned stomach. I'd be four months by then. "August 13th is perfect María.", Bruno answered. He shifted slightly in his seat between me and Pepa, looking a little nervous. I couldn't imagine him being nervous about our wedding. Maybe he was just anxious and I was misreading it. Julieta sat on the floor with María and Isabela. Dolores cuddled my arm next to me on the sofa with Bruno and Pepa to my other side, squished in. Abuela had said she'd be happy with whatever date we decided on so she stayed up at Casita with the kids for our meeting.
"Just one last thing.", I stood and walked over to the kitchen, taking the small linen bag out from the cupboard. Walking back over to Dolores I pulled out the flower clip from the tote and pinned it in her hair. A white lily with an emerald center glistened next to her red bow. Her hands reached up, feeling the shape as her eyes watered. I placed one in María and Isabela's hair, "There. Perfect.", I chirped.
The three of them looked like they were going to burst into tears. "I'm a bridesmaid?!", Isa squealed, making me giggle. All three jumped excitedly, hugging each other. It was sweet seeing them so excited. I really wanted to surprise them, even if it wasn't much of a surprise for María. Bruno wrapped his arms around me, stroking my stomach. "You're perfect.", he sighed into my ear.
Pepa grabbed his hand, mouthing the words to me, "Thank you." She appreciated me asking Dolores and Isa but I didn't ask them out of obligation. They were my sobrinas and I loved them. I would have always asked those two, regardless.
The seven of us headed out the backdoors into the yard, where Julieta had set up a few drinks and some Empanadas. My stomach growled seeing the food, making me smile, thankful my appetite had improved slightly. She didn't have to go through all this trouble over such a small meeting but it seemed to make her happy, caring for us in her own way. The sun prickled my skin, warming me as I listened to the happy sounds coming from behind. The three girls chatted avidly about dresses, colors and flowers. I closed my eyes, sighing just as Bruno's lips grazed the skin behind my ear. "Hey you.", he kissed, lingering on the spot. "I'd still marry you tomorrow but it's nice that you are doing this for them.", he sucked gently on the skin. His hands wrapped around my belly, "Even if you have a small bump, you'll be beautiful and I wouldn't have you any other way." I went to turn around and look at him but his hands tightened over my stomach and he vibrated, his eyes glowing. He pulled me behind him and stared off into the yard. "Mi Rey?", I squeezed his hand that shielded me. He was frozen, his eyes fixed in front of him, goosebumps growing over his arms. Slowly his face softened and a green aura spun in the grass in front of us. "Diego?", I whispered. He smiled knowingly at the vortex forming. I hadn't sensed any energy beforehand, thinking on it, I hadn't used my gift in a while, always feeling too drained. Diego hopped out of the spiraling mist and ran over to Bruno, crashing himself into his arms. A tear fell down Diego's cheek as Bruno cuddled his body close to his chest. "I'm sorry.", Diego breathed out. "I couldn't come when you called me.. I was so tired after bringing Chaina through with me, I couldn't do it. I tried.", his light green eyes dug deep into Bruno's heart. My poor sweet niño, my stomach turned at the thought of him having used so much of his gift like that. It didn't even occur to Bruno or I. A small quiet sob came from Bruno's chest, "It's okay mijo.", he kissed his cheek, wiping away the tear. Diego looked at me and smiled, then looked to my belly. Did he know, I searched his eyes for a response.
