Luna's POV
The house was officially full to the brim with people, ready to burst at the seams. I don't know how seven of us fit into our home but somehow, some way we were crammed in. Abuela still sat in her chair beside the sofa. That dang red sofa, still far too small for two. The smell of my ajiaco filled the last bit of space this living room had. I had been craving it something fierce and begged Abuela and María to let me make it for us. They were stressing far too much for the fact they kept reassuring me everything was fine. I now sat on the floor with Benji, Isa, Mateo and Chaina as we played one of Benji and Arthuro's infamous games, designed to embarrass you of course.
"LICK IT!", they all shouted to Mateo as his tongue rubbed over a pineapple, his blindfold snug over his eyes. He flinched back, pulling his face together, making us all laugh.
"Whatttt? It's like a spiky turtle!", he screamed. Benji held the pineapple out to him, "Last try!", he laughed.
"Uhh.. one of Isabela's plants, a cactus thing?", he puzzled, using his last guess. I think he meant a succulent plant, I giggled. Benji softly whacked him in the cheek with the crown of the pineapple. Our laughter only got louder seeing Mateo's sweet face.
"Pineapple!", Benji corrected as Teo pulled his blindfold off. I could only imagine the version of this game Arthuro and him played. I shuddered at the thought of all the gross things they probably collected for it. Just to torment each other.
As Mateo passed the blindfold to me for my turn I was suddenly overcome with a tingling sensation all over my body. I knew that feeling, all too well. It was my Brunito. He was close. He had to be. My heart beat faster, getting up to my feet and closing my eyes to focus. Mi rey? I searched harder and a tiny flutter vibrated my very soul.
"Bruno?", I eyed the door, Isa and Benji both at my side now.
"Má?" I couldn't answer. My soul was on fire feeling his.
I dashed to the door, throwing it open with Benji and Isa hot on my heels. The loud church bells began to sound. The signal.. they were here. Benji's puma shot off past us, his claws kicking up dirt in his wake. Of course he wouldn't wait for us, I frowned watching his black streak reach the end of town. Isa gripped my hand tighter. We were both feeling it.. anxiety, panic, joy, every emotion as the river came into view. It's rainbow shimmer our beacon to them.
I saw it. Their raft. My stomach turned seeing two bodies laying atop it not moving. Isabela almost crushed my hand in hers realizing who it was. Our other halves... "No..", she sobbed, letting go of my hand just as our feet touched water. Lorenzo was crouched over Bruno, his skin was riddled with green tinted veins. I had to hold back from screaming, seeing his motionless body laying there.
"Bruno?", my hand trembled taking his. I kissed his face, his cold skin chilling my fire. No...
Benji looked over at me, already having shifted back so he could hold Bruno's other hand.
I could still feel him in there, barely but it flickered. "You promised..", I kissed his temple, pressing my forehead against his. My soul was ablaze. I thought it was just my emotions but it was more. It was our magic, the one we shared. The memories of that first night when I arrived here flooded me. I gasped, realizing it.
"Take it back. Take it all back.", I brushed my lips against his skin as I spoke. Closing my eyes and letting the fire rage inside me, our green aura consumed us like a blanket. He gave me this, his energy, when I had needed it most as the shield had drained everything from me. Let him have it back, please.. I prayed. It was as if a light was turning on in the dark. Bruno's spark found mine in that darkness, just as he had saved me from mine. His hand squeezed mine back as our green glow faded around us. "Hey...", he rasped out, smiling at me. His perfect green eyes digging into mine. Hey?! I laughed through my cries, pulling him to me, with Benji's arms bringing us in even closer. "Hey you...", I choked out, wiping my cheeks. Benji burrowed his face into Bruno's neck, quiet sniffles coming from him. "I love you. Both of you." We couldn't have hugged him any tighter.
