I stood in front of the mirror in our bathroom with my shirt pulled up, studying my body in the reflection. It's only been three days and somehow this teeny tiny bump appeared out of nowhere. I stroked my thumb over it, turning myself to the side. Or maybe it's just Julieta's empanadas, I cocked my head, squinting. I suppose it's barely noticeable with clothes. I turned around again to double check. Yeah, it's too low to be empanadas. I bit my lip, looking through the door into our bedroom. Bruno still laid in bed, sleeping soundly, curled up on his side. He has been so exhausted lately, always running errands or helping someone with something. I've missed him so much. Maybe I can convince him to marry me tomorrow so I can skip to having him all to myself finally.
I crept up to the bed quietly, the morning light casting shadows within our room. His sea breeze scent hitting me and instantly comforting my soul. Sliding under the blanket behind him, I pulled myself in, wrapping my arms around his chest. The warmth of his body penetrated through me. The skin under his shirt was even warmer as I caressed it.
He let out a deep sigh, interlocking our fingers. Smiling, I placed a soft kiss on his shoulder. "Don't let go..", he whispered. "Never.", I kissed his skin again.
"Are you trying to wake me up for... activities...", I could hear his smile as he said it. He's been teasing me lately, pointing out my new found 'appetite', as he likes to joke. I hugged him closer.
"Actually, for once... no.", I giggled. I leaned in, getting closer to his ear and whispered, "Feliz Día del Padre..", blushing, thankful he couldn't see my face right now. He stopped breathing for a moment and gripped my hands that held him. I couldn't tell what he was thinking and he's gotten too good at not letting his emotions slip through the bond. He rolled over to his back and his green eyes held mine as he looked at me. It seemed as if they were beginning to water. Before I could say anything his hands pulled me to him, kissing me like it was the first time again. He lingered over them, letting the skin tingle between us. I went to pull back but his hands held me to his lips, sending goosebumps down the nape of my neck. He placed more soft kisses all over my lips, trailing up my cheeks and over my nose. "I love you. Always. Forever.", he gazed into my hazel eyes. "For eternity?", I asked, smiling. "Longer.", he brushed his nose against mine. His smile turned into a grin as he flung the blanket off of me, making me yelp, the cold air shocking my skin. The sight of him leaning on his elbows over my tiny bump melted my heart. He whispered something and then placed a kiss over top.
His first father's day.
Even without Diego, he was a father to the boys. He deserved to celebrate today as one, regardless. He pulled the blanket back over us and laid down on his side again, pulling my arms over him. I giggled as he snuggled his body into mine, back the way we had been laying moments earlier. "Do you... have a bump?", he was smiling. "It's just empanadas.", of course it wasn't, grinning through my words.
Soft knocks came from our door as it slowly opened and two heads peeked in through the crack. It was an adorable view, making me giggle. Seeing us awake they flung the door open, shouting at the top of their lungs, "¡Buenos días, papá! ¡Feliz Día del Padre!". Beno held a tray with plates full of food. "We tried to make your perico!", Teo grinned. "Beno isn't as good as you..", he looked back at Benji, earning him a gentle kick. I knew they were doing this for Bruno, since they had both asked me how to make the eggs for breakfast. Benji promised he wouldn't burn the house down. It was too precious. They brought the tray down onto the bed and sat themselves next to us. Bruno seemed lost for words, twice already this morning. He pushed the tray up and out of the way and motioned to Teo, "Come here for a minute niño..", he patted his chest, getting Mateo to lay curled up to him. Bruno hugged him, pressing his face into Mateo's golden hair as Benji stared with furrowed brows at us. "Don't ask me to...", he sarcastically grinned. "Oh sí.", Bruno patted his shoulder asking him for a hug. I giggled at them. Benji shook his head, no, making me laugh more. "Sí... it's my day..", Bruno busted out the big one; emotional guilt. I wanted to laugh so badly, straining to keep myself together. "Fine..", Benji rolled his eyes, wrapping his arms around the three of us. I sighed happily, I could stay right here forever with them.
