(a/n: chapters are gonna get a hell of a lot longer sorry they're all so short so far)
the previous night still haunted the group of young mutants. Each one of them thinking about the near loss of Darwin, the disappearance of Angel, the threats given to Evelyn.
Hank was the only one who knew what she had been through, even if his knowledge was only brief. Working with the government, he had attended a lot of meetings, built and designed weapons and armour for people who were infiltrating Hydra. But, this CIA mission was new, so not much information was shared.
Hank didn't know, but Evelyn was the reason he was added to the team of engineers and Scientist trying to battle Hydra and The Red Room: the interrogations had been hard on her, she was still semi under mind control so her memory of it was faded. She had reported some information, but when she tried to reveal something big, there was a painful strain over her mind, almost holding her hostage once again. Once an agent noticed this, he requested someone with a background in neurobiology to assist with the issue. And naturally, Hank was chosen.
he looked over to her, trying not to stare as she zoned out, glaring at the floor. His thoughts were interrupted when a sleek black car pulled up i front of where they sat outside the destroyed building. Charles was the first to get out of the car, rushing towards Raven and giving her a tight hug.
"we've made arrangements for you to all be taken home, immediately." he told them once he had pulled away from Ravens embrace.
Sean looked up blankly, "we're not going home." he informed the man plainly.
Charles raised his eyebrows on question, "what?"
The fire haired boy lifted his head up, "he's not going back to prison," he turned his attention to Alex, who had barely noticed the two mens arrival.
"he nearly killed Darwin. if it wasn't for Evelyn, he would be dead."
"all the more reason for you to leave. this is over." Charles pointed out, shifting his gaze to the man in question, checking him for injuries, to which he saw none. he then turned to Evelyn, seeing how she stared intensely at the concrete floor.
"Darwin could've been dead, Charles." Raven told him more stern than she had ever spoken to him before, "we wouldn't have even been able to bury him." Darwin looked to the girl, grateful that he had finally found people who cared about him.
"we would kill Shaw. Avenge him." Evelyn spoke up for the first time since last night, her voice slightly lower than usual.
"my thought was exactly." Erik agreed with her.
The professor was not happy with this, "Erik, a word, please." he spoke as he walked away from the group, the taller man in pursuit.
"are you okay?" Raven asked, sitting back down next to the only other female mutant in the group.
"i will kill him." her response was dry as the others watched her closely, trying to read what she was feeling, "he has done so much wrong for this world, and i put a stop to it. no more suffering."
Darwin sighed, "evelyn, you can't kill someone-"
she cut him off, "it won't be my first time. it would be a great privilege for me to take his life. for myself, for my sisters, for my parents, for you." she turned to face the man now, eyes just bringing to water slightly, but she had been programmed not to cry. "you think he should get away with neatly taking your life? if so, i pity you."
his mouth dried out, the two older men turning back to face the group as the all looked at Charles expectantly, waiting for him to say something "we'll have to train. all of us. yes?"
