The holy match test. Most teenagers were excited and couldn't wait till their parents allowed them to take it. (That usually didn't happen till the kids were 17 or 18 years old).
Stacie had asked Debbie and Bob if she could take it when she was 16 because she claimed to be in love.
Of course they said no, and she was so pissed she set non-talking terms that lasted for about a month.
I believe I was the only teenager in the whole world who didn't want to take it.
The match test, also known as mate test depending on the area you live in, is a blood test. But it's not just any blood test, besides being awful because it involves needles and all that, this test determines who you'll be with for the rest of your life.
Once you take it, the system pairs you up with someone who is scientifically compatible with you. The system also doesn't allow divorces and you don't get to pick.
I guess you can see why teenage boys with their hormones all over the place would love to take the match test. Because the match test leads to sex and both, parents and kids know that.
And the girls.. I guess it's just the fantasy of having a perfect love life and finding your perfect match.
Maybe you don't understand how anyone could not want to take the match test, but it's actually quite easy: What if I don't like him? What if he's not what I expected? What if I'm forced to have kids and get along with a person I hate? And... Ew needles.
"I'm not ready" I told Debbie just as I had when they randomly brought it up last year.
An 18 year old who doesn't want to take it can be solved, but being 19 I kinda had to and I knew it, but as my mom used to say, 'you already have a no for an answer, go find the yes'.
Yeah, I know she probably didn't meant it for situations like these but still.
"Maya I'm sorry, this is not a matter of wanting, you must take it Hun" she told me
"Yeah" I muttered and walked to my room.
Through the day I tried to focus and continue with my new mix but it was being kind of difficult.
All the things I thought were important were suddenly made irrelevant by one thing only: my match test results.
