"You have a funny way of showing it."

"Don't say that. Don't act like you wouldn't do the exact same thing. You'd give up my parents for yours. You want to. How is that fair? Why can't I be happy too?"

"I wanted to make you happy!" She shouted at his back, and his shoulders slumped.

She would have done anything to make him happy. But not this. Anything but this.

"If I could have chosen, I would have chosen someone else. I wouldn't have willingly put you through this. I promise. But it's already done."

"We can undo it."

"No."

She sank to the floor, shaking her head. How could hawkmoth be so cruel? To show him a world that was better than his? To make that same world living hell for her?

"I don't belong here Adrien. And neither do you."

"Yes, I do. I belong where my home isn't broken. I belong where my father isn't a heartless bastard and my mother is smiling and breathing. I deserve that... don't I?"

"Of course you do. I wish you could have that. I do. But not like this."

He turned, looking down at her. Tears stood still in his eyes, and he shook his head.

"I don't regret giving you my umbrella. And I don't regret our world. I don't regret any of it when it comes to you. But I'm not giving up my family."

"That's not your family! That's not your mother and you're not their son!" She screamed, and he closed his eyes at her words.

"I have his memories. His feelings. I could be their son. They'll never know the difference."

"But you will. You'll know. You'll know that that's not the mother that raised you. You'll know that that person is not your father. You'll know that you're stealing another person's family. And I know, that you won't be able to live with that decision forever."

He winced, sinking down in front of her.

"Marinette..."

"Adrien please. Please come home with me. We can be happy together. Couldn't that be enough? Couldn't I be enough?" She pleaded, the thought of being alone again terrifying her.

He shook his head again, her heart shattering.

"I'm sorry."

She shrank away from his words, and he flinched at her recoiling from him.

"I want to be happy here. Can't you be happy with me?"

"No." She stated flatly, standing up in front of him.

He followed her, standing and reaching for her. She took another step back, not allowing his skin on hers. Even now, she knew it would melt her.

"Why?"

"Why? You're not God Adrien. You can't delete and add people based on your own happiness. We were given our world for a reason. We were made for that place. Not this one."

"That's easy for you to fucking say because your life was perfect Marinette." He snapped, and she scoffed in response.

Sure, she had her mother and her father was a good person. But her life was far from perfect.

"I was alone there too. The only person I had was Tiki. I couldn't tell you I loved you. I watched you fall in love without me. I lied to Alya, over and over again and even now she doesn't trust the things I say half the time. Chloe and Lila are insufferable. The weight of the world was constantly on my shoulders. I watched my Chat, acumatized. And I knew it was my fault. I constantly lied to him because of that."
