Adrien
"I can't just leave it. There's obviously something going on here, and I think I know what it is. So, is there something you two want to tell us?"
He slowly swallowed the bite of food he had, glancing uneasily at Marinette. She wore the same expression, a fry frozen halfway from the plate to her mouth.
"What?" He asked, glancing over at Nino, who shook his head apogetically.
"You two are acting weird. And I know why. So just say it."
Marinette looked away, taking a small sip of her water. He shrugged at Alya, who pointed at him with a fork.
"First the engagement, when you promised me you would wait until we both got out of high-school, so we could have a joint wedding. Then, yesterday acting completely weird and dodgy. Even weirder, today, You were so far away at a specific Cafe just to get her hot chocolate, that she decided she didn't want. And, watching her eat as if she hadn't eaten in weeks."
Marinette's cheeks flushed red at this, and she scowled at Alya.
"So? What's your point?"
"And finally, rushing to get everything prepared the day after the engagement. What does that look like to you?"
He floundered, unsure of what she was getting at. There was no possible way she knew they were from another world.
"It's better to be prepared?" He questioned, and Marinette snickered at his lame response.
He shot her a glare, and she smirked into her cup of water.
"No. Obviously, she's pregnant and you're trying to do a shotgun wedding."
Marinette choked, spewing water onto their table, giving him a small amount of satisfaction. That's what she got for leaving him to answer to Alya on his own.
"You think she's pregnant?" He asked, and Alya gestured over to Marinette.
"I do. She looks exhausted. With the way you two have been acting it's obvious. My question is why didn't you tell us?"
He glanced at Marinette, faking an innocent smile.
"Yeah hun. Why didn't you want to tell them?"
Marinette looked appalled, and Alya gasped softly.
"You didn't want to tell me? But we're best friends. We share like everything."
"I didn't tell you anything, because there's nothing to tell. I'm not pregnant."
Alya looked confused, and maybe even a little disappointed.
"What?"
"I'm not pregnant."
Marinette wiped up the water with a napkin, her face beet red.
"But I thought... no that doesn't make any sense. My explanation made perfect sense. What else could you be doing? Unless you're breaking up. But why would you get engaged?"
"Maybe I decided that I couldn't live with him." Marinette murmered, but everyone at the table heard it.
And it royally pissed him off. Joking about her being pregnant was one thing. But saying they were breaking up? What about the actual Marinette and Adrien from here? They didn't seem like they planned on breaking up. And telling their friends? Alya and Nino both glanced back and forth between the two, before Adrien sighed. If that was how she wanted to play it, then fine.
"Oh come on Mari. Don't lie to them. It was because I told you that most of my money would be put up, and that we would only use the bare minimum. You want to break up because you're a gold digger."
