march 1945, hogwarts

"Becca come on! A little party tonight and I promise it's just us. How does that sound?" she sighed at her friends desperate attempt.

"It sounds really great but I told you I don't have time for parties this month." the boy next to her snorted. "Yeah and why? Because you want to "study" with Tom?" she gave him a warning look.

"Theo, first warning." the corners of his mouth dropped. "Becca. Don't be like that now. It was just a joke." she didnt answer.

"Well, I can tell you this much, you cant study with Tom tonight because hes also coming to our party." She laughed lightly. "Tom? At a party?" Theo nodded.

"Now dont pretend. Tom's always there at the parties. Maybe not with the right mood, but hes there." the girl rolled her eyes. "Okay, you're right. Then I wish you a lot of fun, I'm going to study, and that tonight."

"Oh is that so? We will see my dear." he said and winked at her. She shook her head, smiling, got up and walked to her dorm.

"Rebecca, there's no way you can go study and leave me there alone." said the black-haired girl across from her. "Then come with me to study." her friend cocked her head with a disappointed expression.

"Okay I'm sorry but I really can't. Other than that I'm not in the mood for it." the girl sighed. "Tom will be there and you know maybe there's a girl or two-" she was cut off. "Walburga!" the one addressed winced.

Rebecca took a short breath. She hadn't expected such an outburst herself. "I know he'll be there. But I don't, you have to go there alone, for better or worse, besides that, you know full well that Tom and i are just friends. No more, no less. Can we let this topic rest now? You're driving me crazy." she said, looking down at her dinner. She was no longer hungry. And her good mood was gone aswell.

"Rebecca." came a monotonous voice behind her. She knew who it was. She prayed to god he didn't hear the conversation. Slowly she turned around in her seat and looked up at the one who spoke to her.

"Tom." she aknowledged him. The corners of his mouth twitched a little when she spoke.

A small gesture that she had learned to appreciate over the last 2 years.

But as always, it didn't even last a second before he spoke again. "You can't go to study tonight." she had to suppress a laugh.

A little bit shocked by his request. Well it wasnt even a request, it was a Statement.

"I beg your pardon?" he gave her a warning look. "You can't go to study tonight." he repeated. She laughed through her nose and looked at him in disbelief.

"And why, if I may ask?" he generated no reaction to her dissatisfaction. "Rosier told me you canceled his invitation. So I'm here to tell you that you're going to that party tonight."

Walburga whispered her agreements. "Miss Black, please, I'm not speaking to you right now, nor do I need your support for this." he said without taking his eyes off Rebecca. Walburga widened her eyes and shrunk in her seat. "Of course. I'm sorry." Rebecca shook her head.

'Don't make it harder than it has to be. I don't want to go there either. No discussion, you're coming tonight." his voice echoed in her head. She looked at him annoyed. She hated it when he invaded her mind to get the upper hand.

"So? Are you coming tonight?" he asked a little more quietly. Still no other pitch to be found in his voice.

"Of course I will. See you later." she answered through clenched teeth and left the great hall.
