July 1945, Preston

„So you are telling me that you killed-" she took a brief pause to swallow the lump in her throat. „your father." he nodded hesitantly and looked at her with uncertainty.

What if she would leave him now? What was he going to do? His plans would go to waste if she'd leave now. And even if he didn't want to admit it, his life either.

She took a deep breath as she spoke again. „Why?" he cleared his throat as he leaned a little bit forward. „You have to promise me that you're not going to leave me when I tell you. I promise it was reasonable but I don't want to scare you off."

Rebecca could hear that he was sincerely but also didn't know what to expect. She also couldn't help but wonder where this sudden emotion came from. Normally he wouldn't be bothered if she was scared of him or not. „Okay. I promise." he nodded and kept his eyes on the table between them.

He couldn't handle her possible hurt expression.

„When I was born, my mother died. You know that. You also know that I wasn't born like every other kid." he sighed and drew his eyebrows together. He had a hard time to find the right words.

„The point is, my father was a muggle. My mother loved him, he didn't love her back-" he shook his head and licked his lips before he spoke. „Long story short, it has been nagging me my whole life that my father was a muggle. I'm the heir of slytherin and a halfblood." he had to swallow at that statement and smiled bitterly at the realization how ironic it was.

„He left my mother, he left me. He didn't care about anything. He's the cause of every misery in my life, so I decided he has to die. Today was the day." he now looked up to look at her confused face.

She still didn't understand. She understood many things Tom did in the past.

His fascination for the dark arts, his will to create a group based on that fascination, even his from time to time insane plans in his head. But this she couldn't understand. Yet.

She knew she eventually would. She did every time, why would it be different now?

„So you did it because of your mother?" he shook his head. „I don't care about my mother. Or him. Or the rest of my family. Why should I?"

„You killed him because he left you or you killed him because he's a muggle?" she wouldn't mind. She grew up with that mindset all pure-bloods did. She didn't see any shame in that. Still she was interested in his answer. She sincerely wanted to understand his action.

He hesitated for a few moments. He wasn't sure. He wasn't even sure if it was because of those two reasons or maybe for another. But what he knew was that there was so much pent up hatred towards his family. „I don't know." he said lowly.

She just nodded and grabbed his hand from across. „I'm gonna be honest, I can't understand why you did it. I don't know why I can't but I'm trying. You didn't scare me off nor am I going to leave you. You know that I-"

She cut herself off before she could say anything. It was the wrong time. Wrong situation. And it was wrong in general. She knew that.

„-that I'm here for you in case you want to talk or if you need my help." he nodded and held her hand a bit tighter before she stood up and got next to him. „I think you did nothing wrong. I want you to know that." she said quietly and gave him a brief kiss on his cheek before she turned to walk away.

But he wouldn't let her. He kept her hand in his as he stood up and pulled her close to him again. „You really think so?" she nodded as she looked up at him. Looking into his eyes to proof her honesty.

„Thank you, Becca." he stroked her cheek lightly before he leaned in to give her a feather light kiss.

The kiss didn't last long, she almost didn't feel it. But still her body reacted to the contact and goosebumps spread over her arms as his lips connected with hers.

She was lost in his touch.
