a/n: quick reminder that translations of languages are at the end of the chapter, in the author's note!!The alcohol was starting to flood my system. Hard.
But somehow, I didn't care. And it was strangely unusual for me to ever let go this much – to completely forget that I was at a school competition, that I had work to do. I was just lost. Lost in the moment, lost in the idea of being someone else for one night.
And yes, I might have bent over too far a few times in order to get a few free drinks from the bartender. But it was fine, right? I was just trying to save money, after all.
I was sitting at the bar, flashing Louis, the bartender, my best smile when I heard "The Way I Loved You" by Taylor Swift playing on the speakers.
I immediately excused myself and dragged Lacey and Aurora to the middle of the floor, already belting the lyrics with them.
The entire dance floor was full of jumping, screaming people that seemed as drunk and elated about the song choice as the rest of us.
By the time we were halfway through the song, my lagging mind suddenly connected the lyrics with a person, and I found myself looking around for him.
When my eyes finally caught his, I let my gaze wander over his outfit and the exposed skin at his collarbone. Even from far away, I saw his brows rise and watched him pick up his glass and take a long sip.
Fuck.
Completely forgetting about Aurora and Lacey, I found myself walking over to him.
"Hello," he purred as I sat down and grabbed his glass. I kept my eyes locked onto his as I drank from his cup, relief washing over me at the bitter taste that burned a line down my throat.
He chuckled as I set it down empty but waved the bartender off when he offered to pour Augustus another. Instead, he tilted his head at me. "You ready to head back?"
"Yes," I said instantly, surprising myself.
He stood, offering me his arm. I took it and watched as he told Callum that we were heading back. Rohan waved at me, and I waved back, failing to hold back a laugh.
Augustus called a taxi once we were outside the club. I was intimately aware of the way his hands gripped my waist and fell to my lower back, guiding me into the cab.
I ended up leaning my head against him, resting my eyes and using his shoulder as a resting place. Some part of me was screaming at myself to stop, that I shouldn't be this close to him, but I was too tired to move.
When the taxi pulled up to our hotel, I groaned as Augustus shoved at me to move. Then I heard him sigh loudly before digging in his wallet to pay the driver before muttering a "fuck you, Laurent" and placing a hand underneath my knees and my neck to carry me bridal-style up to our hotel room.
