「 eight ✧ rational thought 」
This girl was driving me crazy.
It took everything in me to pull away from her when her heart was beating laboriously at my touch. When she was looking at me with those hooded eyes that made me forget why I hated her.
Rohan was better company – in the fact that he didn't make me rethink how my life had led to the fact that I had to share a bed with that girl tonight.
The memory of a few nights ago flooded my brain. When she was drunk, laying in bed next to me, and whispered "I like your eyes."
God, get a grip, Augustus.
Running a hand through my hair and exhaling, I focused on the exhibit in front of me. But my head still ran through what she said earlier.
What did she mean about drowning? It was a deep subject for her, I could tell. But what had she gone through? What had happened to her back in Italy?
"Penny for your thoughts?"
I spun around to see Aurora behind me, tilting her head in a fashion that let her braids fall over her shoulder like a curtain. The beads in her hair reflected off the lights around us, and she looked practically angelic.
"My thoughts are only worth a penny?" I joked as she came to stand beside me, gazing at the sculpture before us.
"Maybe less," she replied, and I could hear the smile in her voice.
I chuckled lowly before sobering. "My mind is all over the place."
"It happens. But... I saw you two earlier."
"Me and who?"
A shove. "You know who, dumbass."
I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat. "What about it?"
"The fuck you mean, 'what about it'? You two might as well have been having sex from the way you were staring at each other."
"That's not true," I muttered.
"It is, and you know it."
"It's not." I twisted around, facing her. "There's nothing there. Nothing between her and I."
Her eyebrow rose. "You expect me to believe that?"
"It's always been like this," I hissed. "We hate each other. We compete for the 100%. Nothing else."
"Sure. If you want to gaslight yourself-"
"Dammit, Aurora, I'm not. Ask her yourself."
"I already did."
"What'd she say?" I responded too quickly.
That brows rose again. "Why do you care?"
Infuriated, I muttered, "I don't."
