maizy's pov

l'appel du vide
(n) call of the void
specifically refers to the strong urge you get to jump when standing on a high point, such as a building or cliff. by coming up with the idea, it is acted out mentally, thus potentially acting out the idea physically.

it is the tiny voice you get, telling you to jerk the steering wheel and take a flying leap off the ledge. the inclination to walk right into the ocean and never return -- the call of the siren song.

"Thank you for comforting her. I thought you were just going to play her like the others."

"I wouldn't do that to her, she means too much."

"She means too much to who? You or me?"

"Both of us."

"Good answer." Cam says.

maizy's pov

I've been sitting in my bed for two days now. The hunger is just getting easier to ignore, the pain isn't, however.

I miss my parents. I want to be with them again. I want our family to be whole.

"Shawn!" I call. I hear his feet pounding up the steps.

"Yeah babe?" He responds, answering my call.

"I need you to take me somewhere. After dark."

"Uh, okay." He didn't ask questions but I could tell he wanted to. He has to wait until tonight though.

I shower and brush my hair as it dries into its natural waves. I change into a black and red flannel, black tank top, some skinny jeans, and my white converse.

I can't believe I'm doing this.

I lay the note down on my bed and head downstairs to get Shawn.

"Are you ready?" I ask.

"Yeah, let's go."

We get in the car and I start driving to the place I need to go. It takes about 20 minutes, but we finally get there.

"Why are we at this abandoned building?" He questions.

"Just follow me." We get out of the car and I grab his hand. I kick open the door and take him up the many flights of stairs.

We get to the roof and I tie my flannel around my waist.

"What are we doing here Maiz?"

"L'Appel du Vide." I whisper.

"What?"

"It means call of the void."

"Maizy Dallas, what the hell are you talking about?"

"I love you, Shawn."

"I love you too, Maiz."

"I'm going to miss you." I whisper.

"What? What do you mean?"

"You'll find it all in my note."

"Maizy, stop. What are you talking about?" He sounds terrified and dead serious.

"I'll see you when it's your time, I love you. Thank you for everything."

He grips my hand tightly and I gently shake it lose as I walk to the edge of the building.

"Stop Maizy, you don't know what you're doing."

"Maizy. Stop."

I stand there with my eyes closed and then turn to face Shawn.

"I'm sorry, forgive me." I say. The wind is sharp and cool. I spread my arms out and lean back.

"MAIZY NO!" He reaches for my arm and barely touches my fingers, his brushing against mine.

The last thing I see is him reaching for me and then everything goes dark.
