Escape. That's what I need to do. That's what I am going to do. Hopefully I would get to somewhere safe, or anywhere away from here. The night's stormy with thunder rolling and lightning flashing.

My sister was safely strapped to me, sleeping soundly. Oblivious to everything around her. Our bag of the little things we owned strapped to my back, ready to climb through the window.

I could hear my uncle's footsteps approach the room despite the loud thunder and the lightning.

Thunder rolled and lightning flashed, frightening me but I wouldn't stop  from getting out of here. The mud sank under my weight as I hit the ground.

I could see the light in the room turn on and then a shriek of realization, followed by the screaming of my name. Shit, I need to hurry up and go. I can finally put my running talent to use.

Rain hits my coat as I use my body to shield Salem. I sprinted through the darkness trying my -very best not to stumble.

I didn't know where I was. What I did know is there is something following us and they were gaining. It was either some rogues or wolves from another pack so I must've run into another pack's territory or no man's land.

A chase ensued as I dodged the large trees and spiky over head branches. I felt like prey running from a bunch of predators. My foot suddenly slipped in the mud causing me to tumble.

The world around me spun quickly but then suddenly stopped when I heard a  loud bang. I had hit my head against a tree and a generous amount of blood started flowing from it.

In a last ditched attempt to at least protect Salem, I curled my body around her. The sounds were getting louder, my vision blurred but I could make out a tall figure approaching me. Then it all faded to black.

Jeremy

In the corner of my eye I could see something or someone running through the woods. I alerted the rest of the group  and we set of to capture whatever it was.

For all we know it could've been a rogue wolf. I signaled for everyone to surround it, giving it no possible chance of escape. It must've noticed because it suddenly picked up pace.

The figure disappeared only to reappear after a loud bang rung through the forest. The figure must've fell since there was no more movement.

Everyone moved to where it was quickly. Shock...I wasn't expecting this...hell...None of us were. It was a boy with a little girl strapped to him.

She was wriggling around and whimpering. "Jeremy.. what should we do?" before I could even answer back crying started coming from the child.

"Do any of you know how to deal with children?" silence...freaking silence.

Now I see why the saying goes 'If you want something done right or any at all just do it yourself.' I untied the child and started to rock her, carefully stroking her head.

"Shh princess.... It'll be alright.. It's gonna be okay baby.."

I paused for a moment, "Get him up to camp and get him up to the ambulance now." they did as told.

My attention turned back to the little girl in my hand. "Angel, could you tell me your name please?" I whispered to her.

She wiped some tears of her face and told me her name was Salem. Cute

"We're gonna admit you to the hospital to get a check up and fix your bruises okay?" I told her.

"Stay with me, please?" She had the cutest pout and I couldn't say no to that face. We hoped into the ambulance and we made our way to the hospital, Salem resting safely in my arms.

Never in a day of my life would I think these two would be the people to give my life more meaning.  Salem and her brother
