Mr. M did as he said he would, he got us new clothes and enrolled me in school and daycare for Salem. When my mother succumbed to her illness he pulled me out of school telling me that all I needed to know was how to cook, clean and take care of children.
Those words always caused me to doubt myself. That's what I've been doing for as long as I can remember so with the sudden change I feel anxious.
"It's going to okay Arielle." Mr. M assures me. The unease doesn't leave me as we walk to the main office of the local high school, Alvaro high school, Salem's hand intertwined with my own. It was named after the first ever pack leader of the Shadow clan.
I find it interesting that it means cautious in Spanish. Picking an elective was surprisingly easy. I chose culinary arts because I enjoyed cooking a lot and got my schedule. Thankfully it's still the weekend so not a lot of people are here. I quietly observed the halls as we walked back and out of the school.
"You do know that you deserve an education just like any other kid, right Arielle?" Mr. M questioned. I nodded wordlessly.
The emotions I am currently feeling are so foreign, the google search said this was called happiness. It's a really nice thing to experience. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
"Thank you Mr. M. Really, thank you." I've never experienced such kindness from a person before. He smiles at me, flashing those pearly whites.
I was curious, why was he so kind to us? Looks like I was talking aloud because he stopped singing along to the radio. "You'll know soon enough.." he told me as he pulled into the parking lot. Huh?

On Monday I do the same as always. Wake up early, get ALL my chores done and cook then get both Salem and I ready.
My sweaty hands are shaking from the nerves. I get our bags from upstairs, carefully walking down the stairs but I stop when I see Jeremy holding Salem.
She rested perfectly on his hip and she was telling him about this crazy dream she had last night. Her constant mispronunciation of some words and her slight lisp along with that wide smile are absolutely adorable. Most of her words are in Italian since that is our native language and she knew little english. He turns away and we accidentally lock eyes.
Something about those ice blue eyes hypnotizes me, causing my to stumble but he catches me in the nick of time.
"You should be more careful omega." he tells me, voice sounding colder than ice. I quickly move and kept my head down, nodding and mumbling a sorry. He turns his attention back to Salem.
"Jeremyyyyyy, lovely to see that you are already here. You'll be taking the two to and from school from now on." Mr. M's pleasant voice echoes through the room.
"I get Salem but why him?" I wince at the venom in his voice. He is proving to be a massive pain in my ass right now.
"Jeremy Rowan Scott." Mr. M's voice goes from cheery to dead serious. Jeremy only groans in response.
"Have a good day you two." he tells me as he ruffles my platinum blonde hair. Jeremy leaves with Salem, not waiting for me.
Once I was in the car, door closed he drove off. The only thing making the drive less awkward is Salem telling us a weird story she came up with. It was a blend of English and Italian.
I know better than to speak so I just sat quietly in the backseat with Salem.
Sorry it's short.
