Xander Devinson
After a three-hour meeting in Denmark and the signing of a business contract, I decided to book a flight back to the United States. My schedule has been so hectic that instead of sleeping in a hotel in Copenhagen, I need to rest at home. Carla hasn't contacted me in a week, and I didn't get to personally check on her after she moved in. I asked my secretary to assist Carla with any necessities she might require, but Carla declined.
On the plane, I decided to see if my management team has sent me any messages or emails. Carla's missed call and my mother's message were displayed on the phone screen. Because I won't be able to call Carla during my flight home, I decide to send her a message.
*Text Messages: What's wrong? why did you call me??*
Then I went through my mother's text messages to see why she texted me. When I see the messages from my mother, I know she is already aware of my schedule. I totally forgot about my mother's personality.
This happened once when I was in sixth grade, and there was this girl who worked with me on a group project. We were assigned to a group, and she always followed me around. She approached my mother at the time and introduced herself as my girlfriend. My mother has invited her to dinner at one of our hotel chains, while I am having dinner with Lizzy. Lizzy was a lifesaver in getting me out of that awkward situation.
That was in the past, and I'm confident I won't be able to flee this time. I can't use the excuse of being oversea because she knows I'm flying back home today. I'm sure she'll use Lizzy as a trump card again if I don't show up.
Haaaaaaa, I'll deal with this problem later. Now it's time for me to rest, I've been overworking lately.
*Knock knock*
"Come in," I said from inside the room.
"Good afternoon, sir, Mrs Devinson has asked me to remind you about dinner this evening," Rudy said as he entered the room, holding an iPad.
"where?" I went home to rest as soon as I arrived in America. I decided to go to the office this morning to finish up my work for the day because I won't be able to avoid the dinner plans.
"Your parents' mansion," hahaha, mother is smitten with her. This is the first time any girl has set foot in Devinson's mansion.
"Inform Mandy to send Carla a set of outfits for this evening," my mother may already adore Carla, but Lizzy is a different story.
She is very particular with appearance and that refers to one fashion sense. Lizzy has a distinct style even when she is at home. That is why she is the owner of a fashion design firm.
"Yes sir," Rudy said as he walked out of my office, and I dialled Carla's number.
*Call*
Carla answered the phone and said, "Hello." Her voice sounded tired, and since the exam is approaching, I'm pretty sure she didn't get enough sleep.
"Hi Carla, how's exam preparation going?" I enquired.
"You can tell I'm dying by my voice," I laughed in response to her statement.
"I'll be picking you up in a few hours," I said.
"Oh no, I completely forgot about your mother's dinner invitation." Carla was in a panic. "Help me, Xander," she continued, "your mother doesn't believe I'm not your girlfriend."
"Because she adores you, Carla," I explained.
"I like your mother as well; she's a lovely lady. But, if we don't make it clear, I don't want her to be disappointed" I want to assure and help her. To be honest, I might be a bit too interested in Carla.
"Don't worry, I'll see you at 6," I said as I hung up the phone.
If this continues, I'm going to fall in love with her, which is not what I want. I'm the type who prefers to date only if I'm serious about settling down with them. I'm only 23, and Carla is only 19, so it's far too soon for either of us to get married. Carla, I'm sure, wouldn't want that either. She is more likely to date boys her own age than someone older. After a few minutes of complicated thoughts, I returned to work.
