"Dad!" Freddie called as he jogged into the house. I ran behind him, trying to catch up to him. "Dad, where are you?"

"Stop! Dad! Don't come down!" I yelled.

Freddie ran up the stairs. I dropped my backpack at the end of my stairs so I could run faster. He ran down the hallway to dad's office. The door swung open before Freddie could knock.

"Dad!" We both yelled.

"Dad! Listen, Alex–"

"No, dad, he's lying–"

"Shut up, Alex! Dad–"

"Stop!" I complained, grabbing Freddie's arm. "Dad, he's lying!" I stressed.

"No, dad–"

"Stop!" dad ordered. "Both of you! Marie, what is he talking about?"

"Dad, first– he's lying! He's just mad be–"

"Stop," dad cut me off. "I asked for what he was talking about, not your opinion," dad calmly explained.

"Okay, okay, okay– okay, so I'm walking with Angie because Mr. Giuffrida parked further away than usual so she didn't want to walk alone so I walked with her and we see Kevin and so we walk with Kevin because once I dropped off Angie I didn't wanna walk back to the car by myself and then Freddie comes up and he starts yelling at me saying– and he embarrassed me because he said he was my boyfriend and he's not and I got embarrassed and he left and then Freddie dragged me to the car!"

I took a deep breath. That was a lot. I was speaking fast, too.

Dad didn't say anything. His arms were crossed, one had on his mouth as he thought.

"Dad, she–"

"Fred, when I want you to speak, I'll ask," dad calmly stated. "Did Mr. Giuffrida talk to you?"

"No, he just waved."

Dad nodded his head before he looked towards Freddie. "Son, what happened?"

"Pfft! She walked away with people after school even though you say all the time to never leave! And then she walks back with a boy– her boyfriend– another–"

"He's not my boyfriend! Stop!" I hissed.

"Maire!" dad scolded me. "Fred, continue."

"Yeah, so she walks back with her boyfriend and that means she broke another rule! She didn't even tell me she was leaving!"

"Marie, why didn't you tell your brother that you were going to walk Angie to her car?" dad asked.

"BeCAUSE he was talking with his friends and he always pushes me away when I try to talk to him–"

"Because you're a baby! And annoying–"

"Hey!" dad snapped. "Freddie, I'll talk to you later. Go do your homework so you can go to baseball practice. Marie, come on," he instructed and help open his office door for me. I walked in.

Dad made his way over to sit down in his seat. I happily made my way over and crawled in his lap. Dad helped to pull me up. I wrapped my arms around him, hugging my dad. I haven't seen him since this morning. I missed him so much!
