-Chapter 1-

John Strur was sitting on a bench in the middle of the park (finally) kissing Lyna Midan when the world started falling apart. Literally.

Until that day he had always liked to think of himself as normal. He had just started as a freshman at the city's regular high school, taking normal classes and getting average grades. He had just managed to work up the courage to ask his crush since the beginning of the year, Lyna, out on a date. The only thing he considered unusual about himself was the fact that he had been abandoned alongside a road as a baby, and had been adopted by the couple who had happened to drive by at the time. But apart from the circumstances where they found him, he considered his family life to be fair normal as well.

He didn't even notice the hole in reality for the few seconds it appeared, as he and Lyna were thoroughly enjoying their first kiss on a park bench on the path by the lake over which the tear appeared. By the time they surfaced for air, the hole was gone and they were quite confused as to why the other park goers where panicking.

He dutifully escorted Lyna home, then practically floated back to his house. He didn't find out about the incident until later that evening when his dad turned on the news and they showed footage one of the stunned passers-by had manage to capture on film. It seemed to be a place in the air, hanging above the water, where there simply wasn't anything. No color. No light. Nothing.

He wondered how he had managed to miss such a shocking event until he recognized himself and Lyna in off to the side in the background. It wasn't until later that week that he would wonder why the hole had only appeared for about as long as they had been kissing.
