For John, the world seemed to cease movement. No matter how hard he thought, he couldn't grasp the reason the holes in the universe were connected to him. The one thing he did know was that the holes appeared within a few feet of him once daily. If he was near people, they could be killed. The only thing he could think about was avoiding others as much as possible while trying to act normal. He continued walking to and from school with Lyna and Mar for the next few days, but didn't ask her out on any more dates.   So any time he didn't spend at school he went walking down abandoned alleyways and in the forested area of the park to avoid people. When it happened in the mornings before school, he could relax a little. When it didn't, he would spend the whole day on edge and dissapear during lunch. He was able to successfully hide the holes for almost a week.

On Friday, the hole appeared while he was going for a run near a playground that was deserted so early in the morning, so he was more relaxed that day on his way home from school. Mar had strategically ditched him so that he could have some alone time with Lyna on his way home.

"Hey, John? Are you feeling ok? You've been kinda edgy this week."

"I haven't been able to get that image out of my head..." At least, that's part of it. I've also been trying not to get others killed. And figure out why this is happening. Trying to keep you safe...while the holes have been getting bigger...

"I know what you mean. If that's the case, we should do something to get your mind off of it. I think I need a distraction too. How about we go to the carnival?"

-----------------

"What do you want to ride first?"

"I was thinking the tilt 'o whirl first, then the roller coaster, then the flying chairs."

"Only if we don't eat until after."

"You are such a wimp John!" She teased him.

"Well, I have a different idea...how about... t-that?" He pointed, blushing.

"Really. You were panicing about it a week ago."

"Well, stuff happened. I want to try it, even if the idea still freaks me out." He said sheepishly.

"Tunnel of love it is then."

Lyna smiled. John smiled back. He took her hand. "Let's go," he said.

They bought the ride tickets and got in the hover cart. They cuddled up to each other. The cart started to move toward the tunnel. Inside it was dark and romantic music played. For a few minutes they just snuggled close. After that John pulled back a little bit. Lyna turned to ask what was wrong, but John just leaned in to kiss her.

For the second time that day, a hole appeared in reality. Time seemed to sling shot, slowing down as he leaned in, then snaping to light speed as the world tore itself apart around him. When the hole dissapeared he sat in the wreckage of the hover cart. There was debris all around him and a hole in the roof, letting the sunlight shine on the spot where Lyna had blinked out of existence.
