Forest898 did the new cover! It's much better than my crummy old that I did myself.

"The way I see it," Dr. Langston continued, "Reality is wearing thin at the moment, thanks to your presence in our current time. Because of this, our world of three dimensions is getting tangled up with the fourth dimension, so the past and the future are colliding with each other around you. This strain is what is causing the holes, but also is influencing your subconscious with the life you would have lived if the other scientist of this time and I had not made such a grave mistake."

"This girl that you dreamed about was probably someone you knew in your other life, since you say you have no recollection of ever meeting her. The fact that you saw her may be some proof of the theory I just mentioned. If we use current memory-recall techniques, and discover that you really have never seen her before, then your past and present are connected and we should be able to send you back."

"So do you have one of those memory recorders here? And won't it take a while to go through all of my memories?"

"Being confined in this empty warehouse as you are, you might have forgotten we are in a highly advanced scientific research compound. Though we don't have a memory storage device on hand, we do have supercomputers capable of sorting through your memories for matching faces. Even so, my authority is such that if it were necessary, I could have a whole team of scientists trawling through the footage. A computer is much more private, however, and I would assume you would prefer to expose as little of your personal life as possible, yes?"

"I didn't think of that, but no, I don't want a bunch of people I don't know looking through my head."

"I assumed so. It will take a little time to get the equipment, but I must speak to you on a related matter first. In order to requisition the items we require, I will need to inform some higher officials that you are here, unfortunately. They'll want to meet you. I know you would rather not be exposed to the general public, hence your sneaking around here in the first place. I will make sure that doesn't happen, but I can't be sure that they won't want you to be studied."

"The whole reason I ran away from home was to find a solution to this problem that didn't involve me being locked up!"

"I realize that. This is simply a warning that I may have to treat you differently around other people until we can figure out how to get you back in time. I am  telling you this so that you know that I am still on your side, even If I must act as if you are merely a lab experiment."

"Thank for the warning," John replied bitterly.

"I must be going now. We have been talking for quite some time and  my immediate and your future safety dictate that I must go now. I hope you'll forgive my rushing out, but even though one of the holes has appeared recently, I will need to wait until the next one appears before speaking with you again. It should take at least that long to make all the contacts necessary for getting our supplies. I will see you later."

John was still a little annoyed at the last little revelation the scientist had spit out, but was more depressed from the reminder that he wasn't safe to be around for any length of time. This just keeps getting better and better. So I'm officially going to be government property or something until I go back in time to someplace to live a life I should have already lived, or I drag the entire universe into oblivion. He yawned. I guess I should sleep now. But it was still a long time before his head drooped onto the ground, his eyelids closed. So much had happened since the last time he had slept that his thoughts were running around in circles. But eventually exhaustion took its toll, and he drifted off.
