It's been a year, Tanjiro and
you have been training intensely, and honestly it was kind of fun.

Minus the getting hurt part.

You've bonded with the two during training, Tanjiro rubbed off on you, and you were super motivated during training.

But everything must come to an end eventually.

"I've taught you two all I could"

You frowned, furrowing your eyebrows.

'already? this means I have half a year until I meet Sabito, right?'

You followed Tanjiro and Urokodaki to the 2 boulders, one for each.

'imagine if Sabito was alive, that'd be crazy'

"If you wish to go to final selection, slice your boulders."

You nodded, and inspected the boulders, they looked around the same size and width.

After squinting your eyes while inspecting it, you finally relasxed your eyes and gave a confirming nod.

Urokodaki was long gone during your examination, so you looked around for Tanjiro and finally spotted him.

"Tanjiro! Be careful, don't break your sword. Urokodaki would never forgive you if you did"

He slightly sweated at the thought of yours and his sensei, and slowly got back into stance to slash once again.

You walked over to him, and silently watched him try to break the rock.

"Good try, I mean we'll get it eventually, yeah? I believe in you. You're like,, the strongest person I know!"

You gave a dorky smile to him and a pat on the back

"Well, besides Urokodaki, of course."

He gave a shy smile and rubbed the back of his neck and then you looked at the rock again.

'Who's that- SHSKKAHJJSJ IS THAT SABITO- wait why does he look older?'

He jumped onto the rock once he saw you looking at him, Tanjiro still didn't notice until he spoke.

"Shut up"

You straightened your back and stood anxiously.

"Real men don't whine, you'll look bad"

You stood even straighter, your eyes shifted around nervously, looking for Makomo.

Your eyes didn't find hers, so you looked back to Sabito.

"No matter how tough it gets,
you must bear it in silence. If you are a man, and if you live as a man...

You're sluggish, feeble and immature. Thus, you're not a real man."

"What are you doing here? "

You slightly hit Tanjiro on his back and when he turned to you, you made a slightly panicked shushing motion.

Sabito finally noticed your presence, but ignored you for the time being.

"I was about to ask you the same thing"

"We're training, of course" You replied in place of Tanjiro

"How long are you going
to stay on the ground?"

"You don't even have protection"

You just kept looking from Tanjiro to Sabito as they each spoke

"Well, show me what you got." Sabito spoke

"But your sword is a wooden sword. Mine is a real one."

You struggled to stifle a laugh and let out a giggle and then tried to cover with a cough.

"My goodness. I'm so grateful for your consideration."

"You really think you can hurt me, At least your friend understands"

"You may have a lot of compassion, but I'm stronger than you because I can cut that rock!"

You held your hand to your mouth, similar to Mitsuri, with your cheeks slightly puffed out

"..You can cut the rock?"

You lowered your hand and gave a dopey smile towards him.

"I wonder if I could cut my rock.. " you whispered to yourself while looking down.

"yk i don't feel very involved right now, would they notice if I wondered off, If they don't I'm gonna go try to cut my rock'

"You haven't learned anything.

"You simply haven't made
anything into yours."

"Especially the breathing technique
that Master Urokodaki taught you, Total Concentration Breathing."

'oh right, total concentration, I should stay if I wanna learn that'

You wordlessly nodded your head with your hand to your chin.

'Yes yes great idea me, I know me you're welcome'

You probably looked like a weirdo

You snapped back into reality and you noticed you missed a couple lines of dialogue

"What have you been doing
in the past year and a half?

"I'm going to make all of that
stick into your flesh and blood."

"More! I'll make you never forget every essence
of what Master imparted upon you."

"I'm going to nail it all
right into your bones!"

'Meh, I didn't miss anything important, but seriously, where is Makomo..Don't tell me I managed to change something and now she's not here..'

"Show me all your might!"

"Oh, I think I should've paid attention.."

"He looks dead.." You spoke, peeking over the passed out boy.

"Now you take care of him" You looked up, and expected Makomo, but no.

He was speaking to you.

'WHAT? where is she, uhm- I might be able to speak a few of her lines..'

You tilted your head confused, and he stiffened slightly, but nonetheless, you obeyed him and sat down and laid Tanjiro's head on your lap.

When you looked back up, you expected him to disappear like, well, a ghost, but he stayed and leaned against the rock instead.

You wouldn't notice him unless you knew where he walked

You looked down at the boy in your lap and brushed his hair away slightly.

"My, Tanjiro your hair has gotten so long, looks good on you though, boys with long hair are pretty"

With your last sentence, you slightly peeked at Sabito.

He had his arms crossed and he was looking away from you and you gave a smile.

"Such a tsundere.. " You said while petting Tanjiro's hair slightly.

You looked down again once you felt a stare on you.

Tanjiro sat with his eyes wide and when your eyes met, he blushed and your eyes widened slightly.

'This is supposed to be Makomo's moment.. '

You looked away at the thought with a slight frown, but a smile graced your lips once again when you looked at the boy in your lap.

"Are you okay? "
