1.0 (It's all over isn't it) Crisis by Joshua Bassett
All around the room, the atmosphere was suffocating. The chairs were occupied by Death Eaters, their masked faces obscured in shadow, their presence menacing and oppressive. In the center of this dark assembly, James, Peter, Remus, and Sirius were bound to chairs, their wands confiscated, their expressions a mix of fear and defiance.
The haunting strains of bridal music filled the air as Polaris, her face a mask of cold determination, walked slowly down the aisle. Each step echoed like a person on death row was being sentenced to death taking their final moments. The oppressive silence of the room was punctuated only by the ominous creaking of the wooden floorboards beneath her feet. At the altar, Evan stood waiting, his smile a twisted mockery of joy. He subtly displayed both their wands, his hand gripping hers with a calculated smirk. Polaris's heart pounded, but she masked her anxiety with a facade of relief.
"We gather here today to celebrate the union of these two purebloods, Ms. Polaris Elara White and Mr. Evan Rosier," the priest intoned, his voice as lifeless as the surrounding Death Eaters.
The priest began reciting a passage that seemed to stretch on endlessly, its words a blur to Polaris. The oppressive weight of the ceremony was like a vise around her chest, and she struggled to maintain her composure.
"Now I want the couple to exchange their vows as a symbol of trust and love within this union," the priest declared, his eyes shifting to Polaris first.
Polaris's voice was steady, but her eyes betrayed the desperation within. "I vow to cherish this relationship forever, to hold Evan close to my heart as we face the battles ahead, against those I once called friends." Her gaze flickered to Evan, who smirked and nonchalantly pulled out their wands.
"Next, Mr. Rosier, please," the priest requested.
Evan's eyes gleamed with a dangerous glint. "Alright, so I promise to be true to myself because fuck this wedding and this whole righteous charade. I'm gay, accept it or not. I'm done pretending." He tossed Polaris her wand, a spark of defiance in his eyes.
Instantly, Polaris sprang into action. Her wand was a blur as she unleashed a barrage of jinxes, her movements fueled by adrenaline and a fierce will to survive. She rushed to the Marauders, quickly freeing them from their bindings and handing over their wands.
"Quick!" Polaris shouted over the chaos, casting a protective bubble around their group. Evan, with a grim determination, joined the fray, their combined magic creating a flickering shield against the encroaching darkness.
The room erupted into chaos as spells flew in every direction. Polaris's heart raced as she tore off her heels, her bare feet slapping against the cold floor as she sprinted toward the exit. The sounds of battle—shouts, curses, and the sickening thud of bodies hitting the ground—were a cacophony of fear.
With a swift, powerful spell, Polaris immobilized her parents, buying them a precious moment of reprieve. She seized the Marauders' hands, her grip tight with urgency. Evan's hand was on her shoulder as they apparated away, the world spinning violently as they escaped the clutches of the Death Eaters.
They reappeared in the relative safety of Evan's house, the once-abandoned structure now a stark contrast to the terror they had just fled. The house, though worn and deserted, felt like a fragile sanctuary.
"Holy shit, holy shit," Remus muttered, clinging to Evan in a moment of raw relief. "Fuck, we're safe."
Evan pulled Remus close, their lips crashing together in a desperate, passionate kiss that spoke of relief and unspoken fears. "We're safe, for now."
Sirius, still trembling, enveloped James in a tight hug. "Dear God, I was so scared you guys were going to go through with that," he said, his voice breaking.
"Where are we exactly?" Polaris asked Evan, her voice trembling with exhaustion and dread.
"My house," Remus answered, trying to mask his anxiety with a forced smile as he ushered everyone inside. He busied himself locking doors and windows, casting complex protective spells to fortify the house against any further intrusion.
"James, we need to talk. Now," Polaris said softly, her voice edged with a resigned finality. She led him to a quiet corner, away from the others.
"What's up, my love?" James asked, his voice laced with fear and confusion.
"Did I mention that I love you?" Polaris asked, her calm demeanor belying the tears that began to stream down her face.
"No, I think you failed to mention that part," James replied, his gaze dropping to the floor, the weight of the situation pressing heavily on him.
"Well, I do, but this is goodbye, isn't it?" Polaris's voice cracked as she spoke, her tears falling freely.
"Farewell, my Polaris. You'll always be mine," James whispered, his voice filled with sorrow as he accepted the inevitable.
Polaris walked out of the house, her demeanor a haunting blend of strength and resignation. She waved one last time, her smile a heartbreaking mask of courage. As Death Eaters closed in, she was seized with a scream, her body writhing in their grip as they fulfilled their grim objective.
"FUCK NO!" Sirius screamed, his voice a raw, anguished cry as he watched helplessly from the window.
"It's going to be okay, Sirius," Evan said, his voice strained as he tried to offer comfort, though his own eyes were filled with tears.
"No, it's not, and you know it!" Sirius snapped, his grief overwhelming him as he collapsed into Evan's embrace.
The two of them clung to each other, their hearts breaking as they watched Polaris, the girl who had fought so fiercely for them, vanish into the night.
"How are you holding up, James?" Evan asked gently, but the question hung heavy in the air.
"She loves me so much she sacrificed herself for me," James said softly, his voice hollow as he stared at the space where Polaris had disappeared. His tears fell freely, each drop a testament to the agony he felt.
"She told me she loved me before leaving, and I didn't even say it back," James continued, his voice breaking as he sank to the floor. The group rushed to him, offering comfort as he cried, the weight of his loss and guilt almost too much to bear.
