Mary's POV
I arrive at white cap bay early morning. I smile at the crystal clear water. I decide to go for a swim. I strip and dive into the water. I sigh in content as I breach the surface of the water. I've never felt more at home in my life. I continue to swim humming to myself. I float on my back as I start to sing.
"Oh, the waves roll low And the waves roll high And so it goes Under a bright blue endless sky Waves try to measure Days that we treasure Wave hello And wave goodbye" I sing. I hear splashes around me and I right myself looking around. Something grabs my leg and pulls me under. I scream and try to kick it. It lets go and I swim back to the surface and cough.
"You have mermaid blood" a beautiful voice says. I turn to see a woman with brown hair. "I'm Marina" she states swimming closer. I notice her tail.
"You're a mermaid!" I say shocked and she smiles as others appear. I look around feeling uneasy. I've heard stories about what mermaids do to men. But what would they do to a woman?
"You need not fear" Marina tells me as she swims around me.
"We're here to welcome you back to the sea" another states. "I am Athena" she states.
"Welcome me back to the sea?" I ask.
"Your grandmother left the pod when she fell for a land boy. We've waited for your return" Marina explains. "Your mother already returned to us" she states.
"Mary" a familiar voice says and I turn. To see a blonde haired mermaid.
"Mum" I say tearing up. I swim over to her with a big smile on my face. I hug her and she hugs me tightly as I feel tears in my eyes.
"I've missed you my darling" she states.
"I thought you'd died" I state.
"Everyone believe that" she tells me. "I was very unwell. So I went to Calypso for help and she pointed me to here. I rejoin the pod my mother left and had your little sister" she explains.
"I have a little sister?" I ask shocked.
"Tamara!" she calls and a teenage mermaid appears. She looks like a younger version of me. "Meet your big sister Mary-rose" she tells her.
"Where's her tail?" Tamara asks confused.
"Don't worry child, we shall restore it" Marina states.
"I'm getting a tail?" I ask shocked.
"Yes, it's time you embraced your mermaid side. The side that has remained dormant all your life" Athena states. "You picks a good day to arrive, it's a full moon tonight. The perfect time to awaken your inner mermaid" she explains.
"But what about my legs?" I ask as I kick them.
"You won't be needing them while you live here. But if you ever miss them you need only go on land and they'll return. Until you are back in the water" Marina explains.
"You'll stay right?" Tamara asks holding my hand.
"I came here to start a new life" I state looking around. "Why not become a mermaid and reunite with my mother? And get to know my little sister" I say with a smile. Everyone cheers. Mum and Tamara hug me.
"I've missed you my daughter" mum tells me.
"Beckett is dead" I tell her and she looks at me shocked.
"The Black Pearl and Flying Dutchman teamed up. And killed him" I tell her. "I also meet Edward Teague and Jack Sparrow" I add.
"I'm glad that monster is dead" she states. "How is Edward?" she asks.
"He is fine, he is keeper of the code now" I state.
"Well we have much to catch up on" mum states.
"We sure so" I state.
"We shall leave you alone and go prepare for the ceremony" Marina states. Before all the mermaids leave. Except for mum and Tamara. We swim over to the shade and start to catch up.
(Time skip)
I lay on my back bathed in moonlight, eyes closed. As the mermaid elders swim around me. Chanting in mermish. Mermaid language. I feel a tingling in m legs. "It's begun" I hear my mum say. The mermaids continue chanting as the rest of the pod begin to sing.
"Ua hana ʻia" someone says as I no longer feel my legs. (Translate: it is done). But something else. Something heavier. I open my eyes and look down. I gasp in shock at my tail.
"I don't believe it! I'm a mermaid!" I cheer flapping my tail. The pod cheers. Tamara comes and grabs my hand.
"Come on, I have a friend I want you to meet and you have so much to see" she tells me. We dive and feels amazing being able to breath underwater. Tamara leads the way to the mermaid's home. She gives me a tour and I meet her best friend. We then return home and go to sleep on a bed of soft coral. I'm finally home.
