~Violet's POV~
I'm sitting across from my dad. I can already see the stress in his eyes. I'm afraid to tell him.
"What happened to Klaus?" My dad asked.
There was a short moment of silence until I spoke up to say something.
"When we got off the flight, nobody was there to pick us up except for this one guy. He said that he would take us home but he didn't. He sent us to these labs and started running tests on us. Klaus died in one of the trials." I spoke sadly not daring to look into his broken eyes.
I hear my dad sigh loudly. I look up at him and see him bring a hand to his forehead. He's thinking, thinking hard. I can tell.
He gets up from his seat and grabs his coat.
"I have an apartment around here and a bedroom ready for you to stay in. Thank you for looking after her Ben and Grace" He says not making eye contact with anyone.
"It's not a problem, we enjoyed having her," Grace said softly smiling towards me.
"Wait, does she have to leave?" Cal says looking at my dad.
"Well, I would like Violet to stay with me but if she wants to stay here she can"
Everyone turns to look at me.
"I had a great time staying here but I haven't seen my dad for a long time so I think I want to stay with him."
After I said this Cal looked at me with a disappointed face.
"I'll come back to visit" I add quickly.
He nods his head sadly and then crushes me in a giant hug.
We make our way to the door and start walking.
I look back towards Cal's house, seeing them get further away as I walk until their out of view.
"How much further do we have to walk?" I ask him tiredly.
"Don't worry I'm calling us a taxi right now" He says while waving towards the yellow vehicle.
The cab stops abruptly in front of us. We got in and my dad tells the driver the address.
"Where to?"
"293 Cherry Street"
The driver enters the address in his GPS and starts driving.
During this long car ride, I start to think.
Why did my dad leave me? Why did he come back now? How did he find me? How does he feel about Klaus? Does he even care about me?
I think he cares about me. I mean he wouldn't have made an effort to find me if he hadn't cared.
All these curious thoughts were clouding my brain for so long I didn't even notice that the taxi arrived at the apartment.
My dad pays the driver and we get out. He opens the apartment door and I follow him into the elevator.
The elevator ride was only three minutes but it felt like three years due to the thick and awkward atmosphere.
I wondered what his place looked like. I never thought my dad would be living in an apartment building of all places. Well, it makes sense since he was living alone. Living in a large house alone might get a little lonely.
We make it to the front door of the apartment and he takes out his keys a unlocks the door.
It was nothing like I was expecting. There were loose papers all across the floor, dirty dishes overflowing the sink and counters and his clothes were everywhere. I look at the place with shock and disgust. My dad was the cleanest person I know. He couldn't even stand the sight of a dirty fork in the sink. I guess he lives without us messed with his mental health.
"Sorry about the mess," He says while taking a garbage bag and picking up the trash on the floor.
"It's okay, I'll help you," I say while walking towards the mountain of dirty dishes.
My dad looks at me like an idea just popped in his head. He grabs his phone and connects it to his speaker.
"What are you doing?" I ask in a confused tone.
He doesn't say anything until I hear the familiar tune. He's playing his favorite song. Let's Groove by Earth, Wind, and Fire
As soon as I heard this song the memories just start flooding my memory.
Flashback
I was sitting in my room reading my favorite book Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the best book in the series in my opinion.
My dad barges into my room.
"Violet I got you-" He starts but his fast falls into a disgusted frown.
"Violet this room is a mess, you have to clean it up."
I look around my room and it wasn't even that messy. Sure I had my clothes all over the place and my books sprawled all over my bed and empty water bottles in the most random places but other than that my room was pretty clean. Okay, who am I kidding? It looks like a volcano erupted in my room.
"I don't feel like cleaning up my room I'm too tired."
"Wait I know just the thing to wake you up," he says while leaving the room and coming back with his iPod.
He puts the iPod on my speaker and starts playing the song Let's Groove.
My dad starts doing weird dances while picking up my stuff and singing the lyrics weirdly. I start joining in and before I knew it my room was clean.
Even though we were listening to the song on repeat I never got tired of it.
My mom and brother knocked on the door to see what all the commotion was all about.
"Dad and I are having a dance party, come and join us," I say filled with excitement.
My mom and brother join us happily.
End of Flashback
That was the first time he played the song. After that day he started playing it on every occasion.
I wish I could go back to that memory. That's when my life was good. No arguing and no Derek. Just us. My mom, dad, and Klaus. My family. Well, my old family. All I had now was my dad.
I look up at my dad with a big smile on my face. We both start cleaning and dancing to music.
Just like old times.
