"So how is Sid now?" enquires Tanvi over the phone.

I fluff a pillow lying on my bed, just so I had something to do. "He's recovering. He slept throughout the day and I didn't get to meet him yesterday, so I'm hoping to see him today."

"Hmm hmm", says Tanvi. "And how are his parents?"

"They are ok", I say, a little robotically. "Mom and dad spoke with them this morning."

"And?"

"And nothing. They are fine."

"And what did the Doctor say? Did they find out what led to him spitting bl-"

"Oh mom's calling, gotta go, catch up with you later!" I hang up the phone before it gets awkward.

I haven't told Tanvi or anybody else about what I heard that day. The Doctors weren't a hundred percent sure about it anyway. And it just seemed impossible. Sid is the life and soul of the group. He may annoy me sometimes but he always puts a smile on my face. There is no way this is happening. I won't allow this bullshit. And I won't lose anybody else anymore. Hell no.

Elsa pushes my bedroom door with her nose and enters. She wags her tail a little and then climbs on my bed and sits next to me. She licks my hand and then rests her head on my lap. I stroke her fur, and scratch behind her ears. She closes her eyes as if enjoying it. Then I place my hand on her head and gently stroke it. She slowly falls asleep.

In that moment I realise how much I love her. She is the perfect, lovely surprise package of my life. Her and Sid. Both of them have so much in common. Both of them are naughty, a little short tempered, annoying, bossy- but they are just as loving, gentle, adorable, loyal and amazing. What would I do without them?!

Elsa and I fall asleep, Elsa with her paw on my shoulder and I, with a hand around her little body. For a dog so amazingly small, she has an excellent snore. She grunts a little in her sleep, exhales heavily sometimes, stretches her paws causing her nails to dig in my arm, and snores. I find it difficult to fall asleep at first, but eventually I do.

I wake up after a few hours, decide to freshen up and head towards the hospital. Elsa is in a deep slumber. I decide not to wake her up since she hasn't slept for two entire days. She just lay on her head for a very long time, staring at God-only-knows-what. I watch her for a few minutes. She looks peaceful, her nose twitching and eyelids fluttering every few minutes. She looks so beautiful.

I slowly lift her up and put her on my shawl lying on the bed. She opens her eyes infinitesimally, wags her tail once and starts snoring. I laugh mutely and get up.

"Hi uncle, aunty", I greet Sid's parents, smiling a little. "How is Sid?"

"He's good", smiles Sid's mother genuinely. "He's recovering quickly. He is sleeping."

"Oh, I'll come back later then."

"No Alia, he actually asked me to wake him up when you come. He wants to meet you."

"Oh, okay", I smile.

She leads me into the new room where he has been shifted just an hour ago. She gently wakes him up.

"Sid", she says, placing her hand on his forehead. "Wake up, beta. Alia is here."

He grudgingly opens his eyes and mutters, "Thanks Ma."

Sid's mother steps out of the room, giving us privacy.

"Hey Al", Sid says, huffing a little.

"Hey Sid. How are you?"
