Valentina Isabella Pérez-Davidson (née Pérez) was born in Scottsdale, Arizona on June 26, 1993. She is an American ballet dancer for American Ballet Theatre, one of the three leading classical ballet companies in the United States.
Pérez was conceived via surrogacy to Lucas Pérez and Christian Pérez. Due to their careers as a world-renowned conductor and famed architect, their work would take them back and forth to home country of Mexico and the United States. For most of her early life, Pérez and her family moved back and forth between Scottsdale and Mexico City. Pérez acquired Mexican citizenship in 2001. She attended Wright High School but left during the 2008–2009 school year while she was in 10th grade to pursue her ballet career. She later earned her high school diploma.
Pérez was considered a prodigy despite not starting until the age of 13. Her fathers noticed her deep interest in ballet and convinced her to audition for the summer intensive programs at ABT. The committee was impressed by her audition and immediately admitted her into the program on the basis of her technique, skill, and acting. In 2008, two years later, she then was accepted to the ABT main company as part of the corps de ballet. With her parents' permission, Pérez moved to New York where she lived with her ballet teacher, who served as her custodial. On June 30, 2018, Pérez became the first Latina woman to be promoted to principal dancer in ABT's 79-year history. Revealed in a interview with ELLE Magazine, Pérez is also trained in ballet folkorico and ballroom dancing.
In addition to her dance career, Pérez has become a public speaker, celebrity spokesperson and stage performer. She has co-written two musicals, sings as a background vocalist, and acts as a ghostwriter for many popular singers. She performed on Broadway in In the Heights and Hamilton, briefly toured as a featured backup singer for Machine Gun Kelly, and appeared on shows like On Pointe! and Saturday Night Live. She has endorsed products and companies such as Nike, Bloch, Dior, and Givenchy.
Pérez rose to popularity most notably through her public relationship with comedian, Pete Davidson. The relationship was confirmed at the Broadway premiere of In The Heights where the couple held hands and kissed. The two dated for five years before calling it off. Some reports contributed the reasoning to negative lash back from the public, accusing her of using Davidson for publicity and money.
Pérez would go on to date fellow dancer Avery Dupont until breaking up after five months. Pérez would reunite with Davidson in 2019 where it was announced on The Tonight Show that the two were engaged. The next day on SNL, Pérez and Davidson would actually correct the mistake and confess that they were not engaged but married. A private ceremony was held in 2019 at Pérez's family estate in Arizona.
