"So, our parents are super famous?" Sabrina asks the twins.
After the Google search fiasco, the trio made their way to their local bodega. A little fruit cart stood there, a long-standing business they've been going to since toddlers. The street vendor hands them their sweet and sour treat, slathered with concerning amounts of sugar-y syrups and chili powder. The group sat on the curb as they picked through the fruit, listening to this new problem of the curly-haired girl.
"It sounds vain when you say it, but it's true. Famous in their respective careers; our dad crossed many industries as well as yours and your mom in mainly ballet. But your parents were and continue to be the most famous."
"Yeah, famous as if they were 'it couple.'" Julian said as his cousin picked up pieces of cantaloupe and shoves it in her mouth, "Everyone talked about them as if they knew them. You should have seen the articles written about them, 'Brina."
Who knew being semi-angry and shocked can cause such an appetite?
"They were the 'it couple', dummy," Elena corrects her brother.
"Either way, it explains everything and their controlling nature," Sabrina points out, "Like how I couldn't go out by myself, my curfew, my parents never wanting to go out together, avoiding the city in general.... Do I need to continue?"
The twins could see how much this hurt the Davidson girl. 'Brina does her best to not bother her and sometimes they wonder if she will be like a soda bottle after it's been shaken. Will their beloved friend explode from all that she's bottled up?
"For fuck's sake, I sound like an entitled frigid bitch. This is not something to be so hung up about when there are bigger problems in the world!" Sabrina groans, "God forbid that my discovery of being well-off and in higher society be the bane of existence!"
Feeling hysterical, Sabrina picks at her fingernails. It was a nasty habit of hers for when she felt overwhelmed. She felt awful that she was acting this way. She should be worrying about teenage things like what suit she should wear for spring formal, will she pass her algebra test, or if the boy she likes likes her back.
The Sanchez siblings hug their childhood friend, bringing relief to the teenage girl who felt overwhelmed. She wanted to cry but even she knew, as a dramatic human being, that is stupid to do so.
Julian comforts her first, "You're not an entitled frigid bitch."
"Maybe a bitch in some cases, but...." Sabrina laughs at Elena's attempted joke and playfully pushes her shoulder. "And they weren't controlling– your parents. They were cautious, albeit they went extreme at times, but it was all to protect you."
"I bet if we were them, we might have done the same," Julian adds.
Sabrina didn't think so. In fact, she actually disagrees with her cousin's opinion. If it was up to her, she would rather come right out of the gate and tell the truth regarding the situation. That way, no one is blind-sided or feeling left out of their childhood. It would be taking everyone's feelings into consideration and it would end in a happy ending.
Am I too naïve to want that? Sabrina wonders.
Her thoughts were interrupted by one of the twins, "Anyway, how is Operation Carter?"
Blood rushes through the curly-haired girl's face, painting a crimson-color shade on her cheeks. "There is no 'Operation Carter', knock it off," Sabrina says, rolling her eyes.
Elle continues the teasing, "We can always hatch a plan to get you a date."
"Stop talking about it! Y'all don't even know who he is!"
"We know enough based on what we hear," the two said in unison, causing their friend to blush even harder.
A small smile appeared on the twins' face and right when they were going to reply, their phone beeps. The screen wakes up, a notification from Mateo announcing that they were sent a text message. "Need you two home, Mom says we're leaving soon," Elena reads out loud, "Also, what rhymes with 'intimacy?'"
"Text back: codependency," Julian says.
The fifteen-year-old groans, "No, please don't go! Can't you guys stay a little longer?"
The twins gave her one last group hug before standing up, "You know that we can't," Elle says.
"Our flight leaves this evening and I still need to pack. But we'll see you for Sunday brunch," Julian promises.
Sabrina huffs as she watches her friends walk away. Pulling her knees to her chest, the frizzy-haired girl begins to worry.
Now with her cousins going home, 'Brina didn't have a reason to stay out any longer. Meaning that she would have to go home soon and that's not something she wants to do, but knows she has to eventually.
'Brina doesn't handle confrontation very well, a behavior that she adopted from her mother, and dreads the fact that it would somehow come up like word vomit.
Sighing, she picks up the empty trays, tosses them in the trash, and walks east from the food stand. On her slow walk back home, the only child of the Davidsons concocts a plan to bring it up but ultimately, her crippling anxiety would veto every single variation she came up with.
Being so lost in her thought, she didn't realize that she was already at the end trail of her route. The apartment complex looked so daunting, knowing that on the eight floor of that building, her parents would be there.
Oh lord, can I really go in there and face these A-list celebrities? she worries internally.

eek! another chapter posted?
who am i? 😂
i do hope you like it, it's different to how i used to format this storyline. trying to capture the perspective of a teenager and all. it was quite the challenge for me.
this chapter gives a little more insight as sabrina trying to handles the news of val and pete. ik that many won't relate to the circumstances but it's the situation that i tried to capture. when i was a kid, i was given life-changing news that i couldn't wrap my head around it. i was supposed to be thinking about crushes i had, trying to figure out multiplication, and not have to worry about being a part of a serious issue.
another thing is that i wanted to delve more into the character of sabrina. a lot of what she experiences is mostly me projecting lol. i used to have insomnia back in high school because of my anxiety and though i wasn't in a relationship at the time, i based on my best friend's who is currently engaged to her high school sweetheart.
more to come! i promise that val and pete will make their appearance. i wanted to get some foundation on 'brina and the others (especially how angelica factors in) as we begin to see how val and pete (as well as mateo) are as parents.
i'm really excited to be writing again and once more i'm gonna remind y'all that this upcoming two weeks will be slow for updating. I'm currently finishing up the semester as I head into finals week and then I have my graduation and convocation ceremonies!
anyway, don't forget to vote and comment!
