A tired man

It was morning again. But for Adam, it was just the same as the night, because he couldn't sleep last night. He was tired. He could only think about Ruth. Only Ruth. In the breakfast, all the boys were eating, but Adam couldn't eat, he was too busy thinking about Ruth. - Adam, son, I think you should eat, you don't look too well. - Ben said as he looked at Adam with a worried look. - I'm just not so hungry. - Adam said as he dropped the fork that he was fighting to hold. Adam was exhausted, he hadn't slept and he couldn't eat, even if he knew that he had to. -Adam, you can think that we're just normally worried but, we're serious, you're not looking so good, you should really eat something. - Joe said as he couldn't stop looking at his older brother . - Yeah, I've never seen you like that! - Hoss said, worried while he chew his bacon. - Don't worry boys, I'm just tired, I'll go upstairs and try to get some sleep. - As Adam tried to stand up, he was too week and as he hadn't slept or eaten anything, he didn't have strength enough to stay up, so he fell. Ben, Joe and Hoss didn't know went to check on their son and brother. - Adam! - Joe ran to his side as he, Hoss and Ben tried to put him sitting in one of the chairs of the living room. - Pa, he doesn't look good at all! I'm gonna call the doctor! - Hoss said as he rushed to the door, getting his belt with his gun and his hat. Some minutes after that, the front door opened and Hoss and the doctor stepped in. Adam was lying in the couch, he was still fainted. As the doctor got closer, Ben and the boys were even more worried about what was wrong with Adam. After the doctor finished taking care of Adam, he stepped aside so they could let Adam rest. Ben an the boys followed the doctor and listened as he started to talk. - Well Ben, Adam doesn't seem so bad, he's just weak. Try to make him eat and rest, I wouldn't like him to stay out of bed for too long, at least not today, tomorrow just keep him resting a little more and eating normally. He'll probably be better when he gets his strength back. But if he doesn't get it back, it can be bad, so just try to avoid that. Anything you need, I'll be in my officer. Take care of him, boys! - The doctor said as he held his hat and put it on his head. Ben and the boys watched as the doctor disappeared in the woods of the Ponderosa. Closing the door behind him, Ben walked to a chair in front of the couch and watched as Adam slept. The boys did the same, until Hoss broke the silence with a worried question. - Pa... - He stopped for a while as he didn't really want to hear the answer. - D- Do you know why Adam suddenly lost his strength and didn't sleep or eat?? - Hoss said confused and worried. - Oh son, I wish I knew. But it happens sometimes, we just have to take care so it won't be worse than that. - Ben said with his comforting voice. - I hope we wakes up soon, it's hard to just watch him like that. - Joe said. The night was here and Adam was still sleeping. The boys were in the table having dinner with Ben. They were almost finishing it when they heard a noise. It was like a voice, but too low, it was even hard to hear. Joe looked around until he saw Adam move. - I guess he woke up. - Joe said as he watched Ben get up to help his son. When Ben was sitting, the boys got up too so they could see how their brother was. - Hey son, how do you feel? - Ben said smiling. - I- I- Adam couldn't speak well, as he was sleeping, he couldn't eat anything and was still very weak. - Do not try to speak, I'll get you some food and you sleep a little more. - Ben said as he got up and went to get a plate with food for Adam. Adam ate and went to sleep again. In the middle of the night, Adam had a little bit of fever and had a nightmare about Ruth. His nightmare was that he couldn't see Ruth, she disappeared and he nobody knew her, it was like she didn't even exist.  Adam woke up scared, and as he had fever, he wasn't thinking straight, he didn't really know it wasn't real. He was sleeping in his room, he went downstairs like he was really strong, but in a second, when he was already downstairs, he fell. He crawled to the door and tried to stand up. He was weak, he was up but too weak. As he opened the door, he ran to the woods. He was dizzy and his vision was weird. He couldn't really see everything straight and he was really sweating because of the fever. He fell again and crawled through the woods shouting Ruth's name. -Ruuuth!!! Where are you?? - He said. He was there for almost 15 minutes and Ruth who was around, heard someone call her. At first she was scared until she thought she recognized this voice. She ran to where she thought the voice was coming. Adam, who was even more tired, stopped and tried to shout her name again, but he couldn't. Too weak for even keep his eyes opened, Adam fainted again. Ruth couldn't hear the voice anymore, but she had to. He just knew it was Adam. Her love. As she walked more, she stopped when she saw a shadow. It was like a dead animal, no, it wasn't that. She got closer as she recognized it! It was Adam.
