"Erwin. Will you take over as commander?" Shadis suddenly asked him as they walked back to their base after their expedition at Year 845.

Erwin looked at him as his eyes slightly widened.

"Special people do exist. It just turns out I was never one of them. Why was I never able to realize something so simple?"

"I will go to the royal capital from here to give my report. This will be my last and final mission." Shadis told him before he walked away. Erwin and the others watched him leave as no one said a word.

"Wall Maria has been breached!" a civilian announced, making the others mutter and whisper in worry. Shadis stopped his tracks and looked back as the civilian continued.

"Shiganshina has been completely destroyed! Trost is next in line!"

At that, people started to run away, bumping into Shadis as they did so.

"Keith!!"

Shadis glanced behind him, his eyes wide and saw Grisha coming towards where he stood.

"Oh, now I remember. It was because of you."

"Shiganshina District already seems to have been destroyed!" a garrison soldier told Grisha and Shadis once they reached the evacuation site.

"More importantly, if we can't defend Trost district, we really will all be eaten!!"

"Grisha!!"

The two glanced and saw Monika running towards them, slight tears can be seen in the corner of her eyes.

"I found them! Follow me, hurry!" Monika exclaimed and sprinted where the kids were.

Grisha silently gasped and quickly ran towards where he saw his children were. He kneeled down and gently lifted Eren in his arms, he glanced at the side and placed his palm on (Y/n)'s cheek.

"Eren, (Y/n). Wake up." Grisha softly said. Eren's face scrunched up and grunted.

"Wake up, Eren. Why isn't your mother with you? (Y/n), wake up.."

Eren slowly opened his eyes and looked up to see Grisha, Shadis stood not too far behind them. Monika gently placed (Y/n)'s head on her lap as (Y/n) slowly stirred awake.

"Dad... Mom was... She was eaten... by a Titan." Eren slowly said. Grisha and Shadis widened their eyes in horror, Monika frowned and pursed her lips, she let out a gasp when (Y/n) opened her eyes.

Shadis fell on his knees and looked down. He didn't get a chance to apologize to her when he snapped at her earlier. And now it's gone, it's over, he couldn't do it anymore now that she's gone.

"...sorry... I'm sorry..."

Shadis looked up to see (Y/n) clutching her bandaged head, crying on Grisha's chest when Monika gently placed her next to him.

"I-I was there..! I didn't know why I... I shouldn't have... dad..." (Y/n) whimpered as Grisha held her close and placed a hand on Eren's shoulder, who looked up at him.

"Eren, (Y/n). You must avenge... your mother." Grisha slowly said, making Shadis look at them.

"I know the two of you can do it. Let's go. Monika." Grisha whispered to them and stood up.

(Y/n) tensed up and looked at the two doctors with wide eyes, hesitant to follow them.

"(Y/n), come on." Grisha softly said and gently wiped her tears away.
