I watched Zahra walk out of the room.

I couldn't believe what had just unfolded in front of me. As the door shut, I saw the last of her disappear into the elevator at the end of the hall. Her face before the door closed looked cold and hard. The disappointment on her face palpable.

Everything went completely left. This is not how I imagined the first meeting to go. I tried to get in front of this thing but my mother was adamant that she would not and could not accept Zahra.

"Son. Quite the eclectic taste you have in women. That one is quite wild. I suppose you fancy the exotic. But exotic and wild do not make a good wife, nor does it make good for the future madam of LimWon Foods. And what a nasty temper she has." My mother was carrying on as though she were innocent in this whole situation.

"Eomma!" (Mother). I sighed. "She is not wild, nor is she ill-tempered. As soon as I told you I had a girlfriend who I planned to marry, you pulled this. You stepped in impatiently and then you bombarded her with insults." I knew Zahra wouldn't have behaved that way unless provoked. But she had to understand Korean culture. Respect to elders is important.

Now that things had turned out this way, I'd have to figure out a way to fix this.

"Lim Da-Won. I cannot trust the future of LimWon foods to you and that wild foreigner. Anything regarding your marriage will be left up to I and your father. You've played with her enough. I'll set up your marriage meeting soon." With that she turned from me and walked out the door, sharp heels clanking against the floor.

"Fuck!" I shouted out.
