Chapter 8: Feelings For a Friend

"It was?" Mindy was a little surprised. Orion his this fact very well. "Who is it you have feelings for? Oh." Realization hit her like a ton of bricks.

"Does that mean you're..."

"Gay?" Orion nodded. "I think so." He turned his head away from his sister. "It's embarrassing to admit. It'll be even worse if it comes down to the point where I have to tell him, too..."

"I don't blame you for being so shy." Mindy smiled and placed a reassuring hand on her brother's shoulder as the male buried his head in his hands. "Love is one of the hardest feelings to express."

"You're not ashamed?" Orion raised his head a little.

"Why would I be? You're my brother! Having feelings for a friend isn't the least bit abnormal compared to what we've been through." Mindy shrugged. This was true.

"So you aren't going to hate me if I said I had a crush on Mike?" Orion raised his head a little more.

"Not at all. If anything, I'm surprised you haven't told him yet." Mindy fell back on the bed so she was looking up at the ceiling.

"Well, like you said before, love is one of the hardest feelings to admit." Orion shrugged and sighed. "I wish I could just man up and say something, though."

"Don't worry." Mindy sat back up and placed her hand on her brother's shoulder. "The worst that could happen is you'd be rejected. And I don't see that happening!" The woman laughed.

"How?" Orion asked. "I don't even think he swings that way."

"He might." Mindy shrugged a third time. "He seems especially affectionate towards you. He even blushed when you tried to defend him last night."

Orion blushed, having not noticed this himself. "Really?"

"Really." Mindy smiled warmly. "If anything bad happens between you two, you can always come to me."

"Thanks, little sis." Orion wrapped his arms around his redheaded sister. "You're the greatest."

"No, you are." Mindy's smile widened as she returned the hug.

Mike knocked politely at the door from the outside. "Guys? Breakfast is ready."

"Ooh, yay!" Mindy immediately broke the hug, sprung up, and ran off into the kitchen.

"She's hungry, isn't she?" Orion half remarked, half asked.
