Chapter 12: Rewritten Scripts and a Nightmare
"I can't believe it."
Mindy lay back on her bed after the long drive home.
"Our memories..."
She cringed.
"They've been rewritten."
"That they have." Orion stood with his back to the wall.
"So that means we can trust none of what's in our head." Mindy sat up.
"Not necessarily." Mike chimed in from the doorway.
"What on earth does that mean?" Orion lifted his head from the ground.
"Some things you know can't be rewritten are still there." Mike said.
"How do you know?" Mindy asked.
"Well, everything you remember about living with me is one." Mike smiled.
Mindy grunted. "That's not what I'm concerned about. What I am concerned about, though, is my memory of fighting. I may have killed many more people than I originally thought."
"This is unsettling." Orion commented.
"Agreed." Mike replied. "She replaced my memory of the Bite of '87."
"She must've done the same thing to me, then, 'cuz I remember it the same way you did." Orion lifted his back from the wall, but his arms remained crossed.
"Ditto for that." Mindy piped up.
"I'll have to talk to Kiseki again tonight, then." Mike ran his fingers through his thick, brown hair.
"Kiseki?"
"The Master of the Demons. She wants to be called Kiseki now."
"Why?" Mindy asked.
"I came up with the name." Mike smiled proudly. "It means 'miracle'."
"Why would you call her that?"
"It's a long story." Mike sighed.
