Alora walked up and pulled open the door, the bells on it jingling. There were a bunch of students in white gi's stretching and talking which all ceased when they saw her. She didn't know what she expected but it definitely wasn't this. Although it was a karate dojo so maybe she should've expected that.
"I'm looking for Robby Keene. Around 5'8, green eyes, bad attitude," Alora said listing off his attributes. Robby came out of the backroom followed by a blonde girl who was also in a white gi. "Never mind. Found him," she laughed awkwardly, walking up to him.
"You found your way here," he greeted.
"I didn't live under a rock," she rolled her eyes.
"Close enough," he replied. She nodded and shrugged; had to agree with him there.
"Who are you?" the blonde girl asked.
"Alora Sanchez and you are?"
"Tory," she responded, eyeing Alora with distrust. Alora simply grinned at her as Tory walked to the mat to join the other students.
"Well isn't she lovely," Alora joked to Robby as they went down the hall to a back room.
"Don't sweat it. They don't trust me either," he said, cracking a smile.
"We aren't staying here are we?" Alora asked, taking in the sights training room. It had some mats just like there was in the front room but with black walls and white lettering reading the same mantra; STRIKE FIRST STRIKE HARD NO MERCY.
"No, I just needed to crash here for the night. I had to wait till my mom left on a trip again," Robby answered.
"Daddy issues and mommy issues huh? Don't worry it's real. My dad's dead," Alora said slightly laughing at her own joke.
"I'm sorry?" Robby asked, not quite knowing what to do.
"Oh don't be. Just let me joke about my trauma and we'll be alright," she said, shooting him a grin.
"Okay, we've got one shot at this. Quick, in and out, we'll be good," Hawk explained. They had met in the woods because they were supposed to be stealing a snake and bringing it back to their sensei as a gift.
"Know what you gotta do?" he asked Kyler.
"Hell yeah," Kyler replied. Robby came up to the group, Alora a little ways behind.
"Someone took their sweet ass time," Tory remarked.
"You invited him?" Hawk asked. Alora finally made it up to the group taking them by surprise.
"Who are you," the red-haired boy asked.
"I'm Alora, keep it, save it, learn it, because I'm not gonna say it again," she said, smiling sarcastically at them. Her smile dropped and turned into an annoyed expression as she faced Robby. "Why do you walk so fast?"
"I don't walk fast. You walk slow," he answered.
"I'm sorry I haven't walked any long distances in two years. The gym in juvie was a roach infested shithole that I wouldn't be caught dead in. So, where else was I supposed to walk? To the rec room and back?" Alora questioned sassily. The rest of the group just confusingly watched the two's interaction with each other.
"You were in juvie?" Hawk asked.
"Yeah. How else do you think we met? You think I was attracted to his sparkling personality?" she asked, her voice dripping of sarcasm. She took a deep breath and opened her eyes again, this time with a wide, slightly fake smile. "Ok what we're y'all talking about?"
Kyler seemed to be the first one to snap out of it and extend a sort of olive branch by trying to hand Robby and Alora beer cans.
"Here you go," he said, holding them out for them to take.
