"That's so stupid," Alora retorted staring at the racket. After cleaning her nose, she walked back out to join the rest of her dojo. The first thing that caught her eye was the racket that decided Kenny and Robby would fight.
"I don't get why they're having us fight," Kenny said, the confusion clear on his face. He didn't particularly feel like going toe to toe with one of his mentors who it was clear he didn't stand a chance against.
"Just the luck of the draw," Robby answered, looking at the board also. "No matter what happens, the fact that you made it this far at your age is a huge deal."
"Seriously. I'm jealous," Alora said, nudging him in his side. "After this, we're gonna go tell Shawn and brag all about it."
"Well, I owe it all to you two. You changed my whole life," Kenny said, thanking the two teens standing in front of him. Alora almost wanted to aww but kept it down. "But don't think I'm going easy on you now, old man," Kenny added playfully punching Robby in the shoulder.
"Yeah, okay, wiseass," Robby chuckled. "See you out there." They both gave Kenny one last smile before he walked away. Alora's smile faded as she turned to Robby.
"I know you have to win but don't hurt him too much," Alora told him, her voice full of concern. "Promise me."
Robby looks at her with conflicted eyes. "Alora-"
"Promise," she insisted. She walked closer to him and looked him in the eyes with an intensity he'd never seen before.
"I promise," he said.
Alora searched his eyes for the truth in his words but she didn't quite find what she was looking for. She stepped away from him a little and breathed deeply.
"Alright. Now come on," she said, her usual playfulness filling her once again. She pulled Robby towards the rest of their team, unaware of the brown-haired girl watching them.
Across the mat, Amaya stood there eyes squinted as she watched the two of them talk in a hushed, serious manner. When Alora talked about Robby, it was almost as if her entire soul lit up. She'd heard many things about him, about them, but Amaya had never gotten around to having a full conversation with him.
She saw the serious moment end and her sister smiled again, taking his hand in hers and going off towards Cobra Kai. Amaya's pondering was cut short by the hand on her shoulder making her involuntarily flinch.
"It's okay," Anthony said, quickly. "Just me."
Amaya held her hand to her chest and caught her breath. "I told you to stop doing that."
"For someone so "tough" you sure are jumpy," Anthony laughed, making her slap him on his arm.
"Not funny," she said, trying to keep the smile off of her face. She didn't really know where she stood with Anthony. Not with her unwanted attraction for the dark-skinned boy who wore their enemies symbol on it. That was the last thing she wanted.
"What are you even doing over here?" she asked him, raising an eyebrow.
"I just wanted to congratulate you," he shrugged. That and he just wanted to see her since he hadn't seen much of her this past week.
"Congratulate me for losing?" she asked skeptically with a wry smile. She had lost to a girl in All-Star karate but didn't feel that bad about it since Devon had beaten her after.
"No. Congratulate you for doing so good," Anthony corrected, pulling the girl in for a hug. She was stiff at first and then slowly melted into his warmth, wrapping her arms around him. Kenny faded from her mind as Anthony's hair pressed against her cheek. They pulled away from each other and Anthony was forced to return to the stands before the match started.
