Ponyboy's POV

I took the time to relax on the couch to retrace some background about the past months. I stretched my legs and started remembering the biggest changes. For starters, From how much Soda kept working everyday, he was able to afford extra mattresses for Johnny and me.

But to rewind a bit before that, Johnny's mother left and where he left, so the boy was only left with his dad who, still Johnny wouldn't wanna be stuck with at home everyday, which is why he's been living with us. I'm so glad he survived that fire. He was left with many permenant scars and burns almost everywhere on his body, but he's crazy tough, and boy howdy, does he manage to look tuff with them.

I snapped out of my recollection when Soda got off the couch with Steve and looked energetic as ever, as Darry was already heading to the door. "Well, we best be off to work." Steve shrugged as they headed for the door. "Two-Bit'll probably still be here for most of the day like his drunk ass usually is, and if Dally's gonna be out, I reckon he'll tell you where to find him, other than that, take care of ya selves kids. We'll be back in a few hours." Darry said walkin out the door.

"I'll be back, kids. Gonna go out for a bit I guess." Dal said as he left. Leaving me, Johnny, and a passed-out Two-Bit. "Hey, Johnny." I blurted out, half a second after my mind decided to talk to him. That immediately showed that I don't use my head. "Yeah, Pony?" he said turning his head to me. "Do you ever think about the week we spent at the abandoned church?" I said tryna start a random conversation. "Everyday, Pony. Of course! What kind of a question is that?" he blurts out. "Why do you?" he asks. To be fair, that was a dumb question for him to ask.

Johnny, himself is not dumb, he's just a bit slow. But he will look deeply into things if you give him the time. "Just as much as you, Johnny," I say back. He shrugged and looked like he started to recall it. His eyes were big and glimmering. I'm sure he was deep into thought. "Ponyboy," he paused till my attention was immediately turned to him. "You still love that Gone with the Wind book?" he asked. "As much as ever!" I couldn't help but slide a grin. "Me too, it was pretty good!" he chuckled.

Johnny had such a contagious laugh. It was something that made me realize how happy the meaning of life is to me. It's always the slightest of things like that to do it to me. "Hey, I won't lie Pony. I still feel bad every day that I dragged you along with me there. It's not like..." he stopped what he was saying for a second. "It's not like you killed-" I already knew what he was gonna say. He's said it at least four times ever since. I gently put my hand on his shoulder to stop him, and he immediately looked down at it.

Johnny's POV

"I know what you're gonna say, Johnny. It's no need for an apology. In fact..I-I think I had to come with you." he said. I couldn't help but keep my eyes on his hand placement and completely redden. "What are you talking about, Ponyboy?" I asked him. I noticed him start to redden a bit too. "Well, I don't know how to say this but. I'm not sure where we'd be if I didn't come with you." he pauses and takes his hand off my shoulder. "I mean, sure we'd still be close, but...who knows what could've happened otherwise?" he explains. "Gosh Ponyboy, you sure do explain a lot," I say as he snickers and hues a bright reddening blush across his face.

"I'm honestly not sure where I'd be if you weren't by my side during that whole adventure. I wouldn't even wanna think about it like that." I say as I notice Pony rubbing his hand on the sleeve of his other arm. "So just-' I pull him into a hug. "Thank you...for everything Pony." I say unable to control my smile. "..Anytime Johnny." I hear the glee in his voice as he says it wrapped in the hug.
