Hey there! Welcome back! Wow, are those your real cheekbones? No way! Anyways, happy reading! : )

Disclaimer: I do not own these characters, only the plot.

Marinette, 10 years old:

Marinette Dupain Cheng woke up bright and early for once, today was her tenth birthday after all, and she couldn't wait to get her part of her soul song. She'd dreamed about this day for years and she couldn't wait to see what her song was like. Her maman had told her many stories about how so many people had went on amazing quests just to look for their soulmate. She hoped that she would get her soul song and find her soulmate as soon as possible.

It was a Sunday, and Marinette knew her parents wouldn't be up for ages. So she picked up a project she'd started last night, a gift for her Nona when she came to visit today. She'd been working on a new logo that she finally put on one of her pieces, and she couldn't wait to show Nona. She was already going on and on about how Marinette should mark her work and designs so no one steals her ideas, and Marinette had a feeling that her Nona would like this particulary sneaky signature.

Marinette picks up her dad's old ipod. She always works well with music. Shee glances at the battery. 5%. Huh. It'll last her for a while. She hums along to the iPod till it runs out of charge, and continues without it. This was her happy place, humming a random tune and working on one of her pieces.

She holds up the finished piece, admiring her handiwork. She continue to hum, this awsome song was stuck in her head. She just coudn't get out the words.

Marinette pauses halfway. She doesn't remember listening to a song with this tune, or making up a song. She tries to hum it from the beginning, and a big smile slowly takes over her face. Her soul tune was here!

She runs to her parents room faster than ever before, screaming in joy.

"Maman, Papa, I got my soul tune!" She exclaims, jumping up and down on the bed.

"*yawn* what happened? Oh Marinette honey, happy birthday! Why don't you get ready while me and you father get up" Sabine , getting up and rubbing her eyes, trying to choke back her yawns.

Marinette giggles and skips downstairs to have some breakfast. Sabine hears a stumble than a few thuds.

"Mari? Are you okay sweetie? What happened?" Sabine asks loudly, while nudging Tom to get up.

"I'm fine Maman, one of my dresses fell!" Marinette exclaims.

"That sounded much heavier than that!" Sabine yelled, coming out of her bedroom to freshen up. She found Marinette lying on the floor right underneath the stairs, with her face buried into the carpet.

"I was in it" She mumbled, her face turning into a vibrant tomato. Her parents merely laughed and got ready for the day. Today was a special day after all.

Damian, Gotham, Age 11

Damian tapped his pencil against his notebook. For the first time, he was actually stumped on a school assignment, and he was too proud to ask his dumb family for help, warming up to them or not.

The essay was meant to be on your part of the soul song, and what you thing it was supposed to be. It was a stupid school activity that the teacher had in order to "get to know them better". Bullshit.

He sighed as he broke his third pencil in half. Soulmates had been a difficult subject in the League. All members that did have one had to hunt them down and kill them. It was an important assignement to be truly prove your loyalty to the league and the demon head. Damian had (thankfully) not gotten his soul part on his 10th birthday, so his mother had assumed that they were dead.

Secretly he was relieved. He didn't want to kill his soulmate. After leaving the league, Damian had learned that often soulmates had an age gap and the elder one didn't recieve their part until the younger one was ten. He was happy at having a chance for a soulmate, but terrified that it would put them in great danger. His mother did promise that she would be back for him, and if she found out.. No, Damian does not have a soulmate, and that's how it will stay.

He let himself get lost in his rare train of thoughts and started doodling on his paper. His self proclaimed best friend; Jonathan Kent, had gotten his soul song just a few weeks ago. His soulmate was younger as well. He recieved the tune. It was an energetic tune, with a broken undertone, as though the soulmate was on the brink of breaking down forever. Jon had been trying to look for his soulmate so that he could make sure they were alright.

Damian snorted as he continued tracing. He would never want to look for his soulmate, broken or not. He would never care, and even if he did find them, he would make sure to stay as far away from them as possible.

He glanced down at his paper, hoping for an idea to write his essay. He saw that he'd been writing something without realising it. He read the words. They were rhyming, like lyrics.. to a song. He read it over and over, disbelief washing over him in waves. A rare smile stretched across his face, as the disbelief turned into overwhelming joy, hurting his cheeks. HE HAD A SOULMATE. Uhm, excuse me, he had a soulmate.

Happiness, however, quickly turned into uncertainty and fear took over. What if the league found them and did something unspeakable to them? no, he would never allow that to happen. He crushed the paper and quickly threw it away, not wanting any evidence of his soulmate simply lying around. He knew that his soulmate must be kept a secret, even from his father and his so-called family.
