Photos & tear-stained tissues decorated the room, littered about like leaves on an Autumn afternoon. In the corner of her study, Jill Valentine sat. Curled up, knees hugged to her chest, tears in her once beautiful blue eyes. Arms wrapped protectively around her small form, chest felt like she was getting stabbed over & over as she tried to breathe but couldn't. Ragged breaths would escape as moans & whimpers, she was crying.

Jill had locked herself inside the house, kicking out Chris no less than two days ago. She loved Chris, they hadn't been fighting. In fact, they'd been more in love than ever before. They'd just got back from Russia around three months ago, Jill had discovered plans that Chris was too nervous to propose to her. She would've found it adorable, would've given him space, had it not been for his sister, Claire.

Everyone thought Claire was sweet & innocent, a Redfield at heart, passionate about her work & prideful of her talent. True as that may seem, Claire had a dark side. Jill wasn't even convinced that Chris entirely knew about it either. Claire only showed her true self to one person, that person had been unfortunate enough to be Chris' girlfriend, Jill.

Jill had never expected Claire to be the way that she was but didn't everyone else know that? Claire was cute, badass, strong.
Yet, the Claire Jill knew was nothing like the Claire everyone else knew.
Claire was manipulative, controlling, jealous, abusive even.
Jill had seen the way she'd hit Chris whenever he'd accidentally ignore her or ordered the wrong food or drink. Jill thought at first the first few times was merely sibling love. Until Chris came home with a black eye once. Jill would never forget the defeated look on his face.
Chris might've had the black eye but Jill was the one who'd cry all night, holding a death grip on him, afraid to let him go back to that monster he called a sister. But Jill knew, Chris had the burden of protecting Claire, he was her older brother, the only family they had left was each other. Until Jill came along.

Jill had always been supportive of Chris, always loved & faith in him. But when Claire learned of his plans to make Jill a Redfield, she of course, wasn't happy. Claire had gotten into Chris' head, made him believe that Jill would humiliate him if he dared to propose to her.

It broke her heart, knowing that she & Chris, despite all the madness, couldn't live a normal life, celebrate the things that normal couples go through. Instead, Jill received nasty words from a person who she once considered family. Every ambition Jill had, Claire shot it down.

Jill said she wanted to move away & have children with Chris, that they could retire & live a quiet life.
Claire argued that the world needed Chris, as long as there were monsters, Chris Redfield needed to fight, ironic that the worst monster was by his side the whole time.
Claire also jabbed at Jill, saying that two or three children was too many. Jill had only planned on having one at first but her support for Chris made her want to give him a family, she wanted a family also, so the bigger, the better right? A girl & a boy?

Claire never supported them, never said that Jill was a decent human being. Carlos had been chased away by her & now Jill feared that she & Chris would never have that fairytale ending.

"That's just not the life for people like us, Jill. We have to keep fighting, it's our responsibility."

That was Chris' answer when she confronted him about the hidden engagement ring, the abandoned plans for their future.
Blinded by hate, she made him leave.
Now she sat, glaring at photos of them smiling, different locations around the world in different scenarios, she missed how gentle he was, the soft kisses he would place on her lips. She felt so safe & in love with him, & yet, Claire had taken that & thrown it. Had somehow vowed to make Jill's life a living Hell merely because she adored her brother.

Jill sighed, thumb swiping the tears away as she lifted her head, still hugging herself.
If Chris didn't want to fight for their relationship, should she just leave? Just move on & forget that the sex, the promises of a future, the dates, the awkward flirting, the funny, warm & proud feeling she got in her chest whenever he was around, just didn't happen?

Jill shivered as she inhaled, the sun going down for a third night without her lover, now. She hoped he was ok, hoped that Claire would finally leave her alone now that she had ruined everything. But Jill knew, the monster of a woman wouldn't stop, even after Jill was six feet under.

Chris had been her rock, her everything.
Claire had been their undoing.
People would know the truth, Jill angrily vowed, eyes a blaze of fiery blue. Claire couldn't run from the truth, she would pay for this!
