Killian's POV:
The cold sea breeze sliced through the crisp fall air as we both stood on the boardwalk. I shivered from my core as I removed my wool coat, draping it over Loren's small shoulders.
"You've never dressed for the weather" My voice broke the silence and chuckled, hoping she wouldn't take offense to my observation.
Her emerald eyes looked up at me with utter gratitude, a small lock of hair falling too far in front of her face. The signature pink returned to her cheeks as she thanked me, blushing from embarrassment.
"I guess I'm just always hoping a handsome gentleman will come along and lend me his coat, saving me from the cold." Her sweet laugh that followed made my legs weak. Oh how I wished I could just pull her into me and warm her myself. Screw the jacket, she doesn't need it. I can wrap my arms around her just as well, if not better.
"Careful what you wish for, Doll."
And just like that, the playful smile dropped from her delicate face and she looked up at me.
"Really Killian, why are you here? Why did you drive the two hours in the pouring rain?"
I shook my head slowly, only speaking after a few moments.
"That night I was supposed to meet a business partner, I was certain that I was going to die. I had already accepted it. I was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. But then as I was preparing to leave this world, I was dropped in the middle of my grandfathers estate. And then I looked up and there you were... somebody that I could have easily mistaken for an angel. It was almost as if we were together again, like my parting gift from this cruel world. A final goodbye." I paused as I gathered my next words.
"But instead of panicking or worrying, I felt at peace. I felt safe, like I was standing before the one person who had control over it all. And you know Doll, I am not a religious man. I grew up Catholic but after I left my family, I left those beliefs behind as well. But in that moment I swear to you, I knew you could save me. You were my angel... are my angel. I don't know what happened after that but the next thing I know, I'm laying in a hospital bed attached to millions of machines while that same angel is holding my hand, telling me to behave myself." I scoffed and smiled.
"Wait, are you talking about the field?" Loren's brown eyebrows raised high above her eyes.
"Yes, my grandfather's estate was off in the distance." I confirmed
"You told me that I was the only one who could save you. That... that wasn't just my imagination?" She stared at me in disbelief.
"I guess not, and it worked didn't it? You saved me"
"Wow" was all she could manage to whisper.
"Anyways, since then I haven't been able to stop thinking about you Doll. You consume each and every one of my thoughts. More so than before" I laughed softly. I always thought about Loren, but now more than before. It was like I was obsessed. I couldn't stop. Each time I tried to think of one thing, my mind bounced back to her.
We stood with a tense silence hanging in the air as we processed the words. My elbows rested on the cool wooden railing as the waves crashed below the boardwalk.
"I've felt the same way" Lorens soft voice finally interrupted the water.
"You what?" I asked as if I didn't just hear her confession.
"I haven't been able to stop thinking about you either".
We were alone but she spoke so softly, it was like she didn't want anybody else to hear her. Just in case. She now refused to look at me and instead her eyes were fixed on the blackened sea that spread vastly in front of us.
"It's almost like we were brought back together for a reason" She trailed off
"I just hate that it had to come to me almost dying for you to spare me a second on your mind" I joked and she glared up at me.
"I'm not the one who ended things" She spoke so lightly but her shoulders tightened.
"You know that it killed me to do that"
"I know" Her voice softened and her tensed shoulders dropped.
She looked up at the sky just as I felt a cold rain drop land on my cheek. By the second, more and more drops fell from the sky.
"Oh no" Loren muttered as the floodgates opened and before we knew it, we were sprinting back to our cars, soaking wet. As we ran, the water that was pooling on the sidewalk slashed up, soaking us even more. The thin fabric of my shirt clung to my skin and I watched as Loren continued to cling the floppy wool coat to her body.
As soon as we arrived to the car Loren dug through her purse for the car keys. Before us stood a beautiful Aston Martin DB5 in pristine condition. The girl had some taste.
"Fuck" she muttered as the keys slipped out of her hands and I reached down to pick them up at the same time as her causing an awkward pause.
"Where is you car??" She asked and gestured at the empty parking spot behind me.
"At my home, I walked!" I had to yell over the sound of the torrential downpour. "Here, let me!" I grabbed for the keys, it was painful trying to watch her unlock the door. Within seconds her door was open and I was running around to the other side, opening the passenger door for myself.
I shuddered as my sopping wet body came in contact with the vintage leather seats. Trying to catch my breath, Loren interrupted me with a burst of hysterical laughter. Looking over at her, she had her head tilted back behind me and the biggest grin on her face. Water droplets slid down her cheeks as her body shook and I soon joined in.
As soon as she heard my laugh she turned her head in my direction, still resting against the headrest and opened her eyes, continuing her uncontrollable giggles. It seemed like the more one of us laughed, the more the other did causing a complete and utter chain reaction.
"Oh my God" Loren finally wheezed out and rested her delicate face in her hands. "What are we doing" She asked as her laughter faded into a sorrowful chuckle.
"Something I should have done a long time ago" My heart beat out of my chest as I turned in my seat, placing my palms on Loren's soft cheeks. Her emerald eyes stared into mine and suddenly, our lips engulfed each others.
I could feel nothing but the fire that pricked on my skin, I could hear nothing but the slamming raindrops on the top of the car, and I could see nothing but the future Loren and I could have together.
Her sweet lips overwhelmed me, took control of me. My fingers tangled in her hair and hers mine as our inner hungers were released in one single kiss.
And so I thought to myself, this -- this is what Heaven feels like.
