The tension in the room was so thick, it could be easily be cut with a knife. Harry paced back and forth in the living room as Louis just stared at the laptop screen with a clenched jaw.

You think we really care if we get Lydia or not? We just need money, give us the amount we ask for and you can have her back. She's a nuisance anyways.

Two simple statements, enough to make Harry and Louis' blood boil with anger.

"The IP address is not traceable, we've got our IT team on it though. Copies of the email have been printed for proof and sent to the court."

Zayn nods as Liam leans on the wall with his brows furrowed. Niall was sitting beside Anne and rubbing her shoulder while Robin had gone with the Police officers who were going to check on Aaron and Brianna's house.

The phone ringing broke everyone from their trance, Anne picking it up almost immediately.

"H-Hello?" She says shakily.

"Oh god- uhm alright, Alright hun" She says ending the call.

"There's no one named Aaron and Brianna at the address they gave us. Robin said they're enquiring around with their pictures, will call if they find something"

The room falls into silence again, the lawyer tapping away emails to the court about the updates while Mark tried contacting the CPS and Lydia's orphanage for further details about the couple. At this point they weren't even sure if Aaron and Brianna was their real name.

"I knew it. I fucking knew it" Harry mumbles slamming his hand on the counter, making everyone else in the room jump.

"There was nothing we could've done Harry, if we hadn't listened to them we'd be in court surveillance for keeping a child away from her biological parents, at least they'd press those charges. And Lydia is fine, until we give them the money they want, they're not gonna hurt her."

"THAT'S NOT FUCKING CONSOLING" Louis yells, fists clenched. He'd been holding himself for too long now, watching and waiting.

"We can't just let her be with them any longer. Its already been four fucking days. Do you fucking know how hard it is !?" He runs a frustrated hand through his hair, falling back onto the couch.

"Why don't we just give them the money?" Niall asks

"Because one, its too much and second if we listen to them they'll keep threatening us with something legal over time. We can't always comply to their word. We need proof that the documents they submitted were fake and that they're not her real parents. I've sent copies and pictures of their documents to my office for verification by experts, they'll call any moment now"

-------------------------

Lydia kept slipping in and out of sleep, she was barely four but old enough to notice that she'd been falling asleep a lot more than she normally did. Every time they fed her she'd fall asleep and wake up at some random hour of the day. They'd moved to a smaller house the very next day, she'd stopped talking and crying yesterday, doing what she was told.

At night she'd talk to the ceiling, begging the lonesome emptiness to bring her dads to her. Arms open and waiting for them but only cold air and a void filled the hug lulling her to sleep.

-----------------------

Louis was miserable, his heart rate was through the roof as his eyes held back salty tears. He kept clutching the lavender unicorn and the elephant Lydia owned and carried all over the place with her. Wondering how she was without them, he wanted to hear her cackle, the soft curls brushing between his fingers as he tries to braid them. Failing as she continues laughing at him.

The sound of her voice, the small squeak of joy each time he picked her up and twirled her around like a distant echo in his brain. The way she screamed for him before leaving making him weak in the knees as he longed to fall to his knees and cry, beg the empty halls and skies to give him his Lydia back.

--------------------------------

Harry was lost, grieving since the day she left, but now he was numb. He'd stopped crying just like Lydia, wallowing in guilt and sullen thoughts that never seemed to leave his mind. All he longed for was the sweet little smile and patter of feet against to hardwood.

"hazza ! Hazza !"

Her voice clear as day in his mind.

-----------------------------

"HAZZA !!"

His head snapped up as he looks at the front door, a gasp leaving his lips as he watches a bruised Lydia run towards him. A moment later he stumbles on his feet picking her up midway as she wraps her fragile body around him.

"L-Ly-oh my god !" he exclaims as the ruckus gathers everyone in the room, Louis running past everyone as he kneels beside them, wrapping both of them in a hug.

"Lou-Lou !" She sobs, clinging to the men for dear life.

"We caught them carrying her unconscious towards the city outskirts. We've sent them for interrogation and their case will work aside from the other proceedings"

Robin says placing a small bag of medicines on the counter as everyone sighs in relief. Everyone moves to the living room to give them space as Harry carries Lydia to their bedroom.

"Hazza they bad" She whimpers as Louis changes her dirty clothes and patches her scraped knees and elbows all while maintaining  his calm.

"I know angel, I know" he kisses her forehead as she holds his hand.

"I love you" She pouts, her eyes welling up with tears as she sniffles.

"Princess, shhh its okay, we're here" Louis kisses her forehead. "We love you too"

"You'll stay with me forever daddy?" She asks, Harry and Louis' breathe hitching in their throats as they nod.

"Yeah, we will. We promise. Go to sleep angel, we're right outside the door okay?" Harry says, letting the lights remain on as they step out of the room.

They needed answers.

What were the couple upto? Why the city outskirts? What now?
