Chapter 1 : Unexpected Offer

Savannah arrive at the law firm of Madison and Fitzhugh. Despite her efforts, she's five minutes late.
Thankfully, the first person she run into is the office secretary, and her best friend, Stacy.
-Savannah:"Oh my God, not again. I'm so going to get fired this time."
-Stacy:"You said you had everything under control. What happened ?"
-"My class ran late. Then i had to run an errand,and i had some car trouble. Are they mad at me? Am i going to get fired?"
-"Chill! I told them you were visiting your grandma at the hospital. "
-"Stacy! You know i don't like it when you lie about my family like that. It's bad karma."
-"Oh,so you'd rather i tell them the truth?"
-"Um...No."
-"Then,i believe the words you're looking for are , 'Thank you, Stacy. I owe you. Big time'."
-"Thank you Stacy."
Stacy gets a message on her phone. She looks concerned.
-She said:"Hold up a second. Boss man wants to see you. "
-"Wait. Which boss man? Madison or Fitzhugh?"
-"The hot one."
-"They're my bosses. I don't see them as hot."
-"i can't believe you're not attracted to Lucas Madison. "
-"He's not my type."
-"i can bull. He's hot,rich, and powerful. He's everybody's type. Well whatever if is, he wants you in his office ASAP."
-"Oh! Okay. "
-"Don't worry Savannah. It'll be fine."
Stacy leaves and Savannah knocks on the door of Lucas Madison,Attorney at Law.
Lucas:"Come in,Savannah. "
Savannah:"Good afternoon, Mr. Madison. Is that a new suit?Italian? " she said to distract him
-"Yes, though quite frankly what i wear is none of your concern."
-"Oh. Sorry."
-"Please have a seat. I'm going to cut right to the chase. I have a special assignment for you, but i'm warning you- it's a bit...unconventional. You'll be sworn to absolute secrecy."
She thinks :'absolute secrecy??' Then, she say : "Mr. Madison, you're aware i'm not actually a lawyer yet. And i refuse to do anything illegal."
-"I assure you, it's nothing illegal. But it is an odd request.
-"i'm listening..."
-"This Saturday marks the wedding of Paxton Brayers and Zia Landricks."
-"who are they?"
-"Paxton Brayers is one of the most influential minds in the legal field."
-"Oh!"
-"And Zia Landricks is...my ex-girlfriend. "
-"Interesting. So where do i fit into the mix?"
-"Long story short, i need a date to the wedding. "
-"Wait, are you saying..."
-"Yes. I'm asking you to go to the wedding with me."
-"i don't know if that's a good idea, mixing work and our personal lives like that."
-"Savannah, i wouldn't ask if i weren't in a real bind. I'm asking for your help here. And your discretion. "
-"Um... Okay, i guess. I mean , how hard will it be?"
-"Well, there's one more thing i should tell you."
-"Okay..."
-"You wouldn't just be my date. You'd actually be playing my girlfriend. "
-"what? Girlfriend! "
-"we'd have to come up with a story about how we met and how long we've been together. We'd have to agree to a little PDA."
-"Mr. Madison..."
-"Savannah, you should probably start calling me Lucas. "
-"Lucas, i don't know if i can pretend to be your girlfriend. I just don't like the idea of faking a relationship. "
-"i understand, but it would just be acting. "
-"i know. But it's wrong, Mr.Madison. "
-"that's very noble of you to say, Savannah. I also have to admit that i buried the lead here. "
-"Oh?"
-"If you agree to play the role of my girlfriend for the wedding, and the event goes smoothly, you will be rewarded. "
-"How so?"
-"Fistly, i will have you styled by one of my favorite clothing designers. "
-"Appealing to a woman's vanity, are you?"
-"Secondly, i will pay you ten thousand dollars. "
-"ten thousand dollars! For one day?"
-"yes , take some time to think about it."
-"i will."
-"but i need an answer by tomorrow morning. Let's talk then."
Savannah get home , ready to collapse. She thinks:"i'm overwhelmed to begin with. I'm a full time law student. And a legal aide at a law firm. And now i've got to decide whether or not i'm willing to fake-date my boss." She got a text message. It's her mom.
"Sav, honey. How are you?"
"I'm okay mom"
"Are you sure?"
"Don't worry about me. I'm okay."
"I don't believe you,sav. I know you're overworking"
"Okay, i am a little stressed. But my schedule will only be like this for the rest of the year."
"You'll do it sweetie. I have faith in you."
"Thanks. How are you doing? "
"J didn't want to tell you this but.. i got laid off last week."
"What!? Meet me at Cooper's in half on hour."
She get ready to meet her mom.
They met there. A friendly waitress appears to take your order:" it's half off for ladies' night tonight. So what'll it be ?"
They order.
Sav:"okay, let's talk about your situation. there are a few other banks in the area. Maybe you should apply there for a job."

-"i have. And i have a few interviews lined up this week."

-"that's awesome!"

-"But there are no guarantees."

-" i know"

Waitess:"Sorry to interrupt, but here are your drinks."

After thanking the waitress, Savannah's mom continues the coversation. she say :"Between your sisters' tuition, the alimony payments, and the car repairs i had done last month, i'm stretched pretty thin. And the school called and told me that they think Donna needs glasses. i just about screamed."

-"Mom, i can help you. i'm happy to lend you some money. i have some savings. i can _

-"Sav, i can't take your savings."

-"It would be a loan."

-"Even still. You need your rainy day fund. I'll figure it out.Don't worry."

Savannah let out a heavy sigh. She wish that she could just get her hands on some money. She thinks :"I guess Lucas is the answer..."
